The easiest way to make that happen is to download and install the latest Unofficial Arcanum Patch[terra-arcanum.com] (aka UAP). UAP allows you the full control over followers level ups, so they don't automatically spend their character point into something when they level up.
To do that, first you need to open up follower's character screen, and switch their 'Level Scheme' to 'No Scheme'. Next time when the follower levels up(which means, when you level up), they will not spend their character point automatically, so that you can use that point on whatever you want.

As you can see in this figure, Virgil has 1 character point that is ready to be used upon his level up, because I switched his level scheme to 'No Scheme'. Do the same for your followers.
Note that this will NOT allow you to lower any followers stats that were already been distributed. So if Magnus is level 14, and he already spent his points to Melee and Dodge, you can't lower those skills to retrieve the character points and put them to something else.
That means you want to switch their level schemes as soon as you can before your followers level up too much and spend their points too much on something else. If your followers in this shape, unfortunately, I can't provide any useful advice other than load up an old save where you first met them. (If you really want to gain control over their level ups right from the beginning)
There is another method, but it is way more hassle to even bother to mention it here.
Google Drive is an online file storage feature provided by Google. People can access into someone else's file, if the owner has set it to be a public file.
But really, all you need to do is click the link to Google Drive and click download.
the automatic level-up schemes are all in there, and you can define your own and set your followers to them, or just modify what theyve already got.
if you dont see the files, you should read my guide below.
like johnny said, its a bit of a hassle. i recommend reading my arcanum modding intro guide to get familiar with the basics first:
