Going by what info was given, if your character has 24 strength and an aptitude of -16, the database for melee weapons sorted by average damage per action point (AvD/AP) looks like this[i.imgur.com]. Everything above the Sword of Balter is more efficient, the greater the higher the AvD/AP number.
If I'm guessing correctly that magick/tech wise your character is neutral/slightly tech, what you want is large platemail. If you're playing with the unofficial arcanum patch, you're best option is checking the stock of Tarant's quality smith - he has a small chance to sale large bronzed plate each day. If he doesn't have it, move away your cursor far enough that he's no longer on the screen, wait 24h and check his inventory again. Repeat until success.
He won't sell it without the patch, and in that case the best large non-crafted neutral/tech armor can be found around Killian Drake (he appears later on in the main plot). He has two half-ogre bodyguards, both wearing large basic platemails than can be pickpocketed from them with a fate point.
Wise women also have a chance to sell large arcane plate. A non-magick character won't get the fullest of its bonuses, but hey, it's a large platemail nonetheless. Wise women only have a 1% chance to carry it whenever they restock though (same for any other arcane item as well), so farming for it can be quite bothersome.
That way you can make Large armours for yourself - and get quite a unique playthrough as the "anti-Half Ogre" character.
