Firefight

I just played the game and...
I have to say I enjoy it a lot! It is simple but fun and yes you actually do need some strategy to win. I have played many wargames like Close Combat (II,III,COI,GTC,LD and more), Men of War, Theatre of War and more and I wanted to give my suggestions on what could be improved!

I think that when the enemy fires there should be muzzle flashes like your own units have. I thought it was weird that your units did but the enemy doesn't? It would also help the player determine where to fire when the enemy sees him but he doesn't see the enemy.

I'd like the soldier outlines to be more obvious. I think the circles are a good idea but when zoomed out they blend in with the enviorment.

Those "updates" in the top left of the screen (Reinforcements, "Blank" has been killed, etc) I want them to be clickable and when you click them it takes you to the area of the event. So when it says I lost Jimmy I could click on the update and it would move my screen to Jimmy's dead body.

Some one else posted this but is there a reason for the hold to select for firing and artillery?

At the beginning of the mission I'd like the mission to show you where the objective is, kinda like in your old demo.

For the mortar I'd like something similar to the artillery where it shows the target location of the mortar fire. I always forget where I tell them to fire D:

When reinforcements arrive can there be a bugle (bugel?) sound or something obvious that lets you know reinforcements have arrived.

Someone else already mentioned but a manual would be nice to explain what the speech bubbles mean like "AMMO!" and "MEDIC!" (I have no clue how to save them) and to explain what the heart, green bar and yellow bar mean.

One thing I noticed with the unit icons in the bottom right is that the MG34 icon looks like he is carrying a MP40. Maybe i'm blind but to me that is what it looked like.

One thing I'd like is a COMPLETED marker on missions we've won. I know the green arrow is there but that is also a "continue" button more than a completed icon.

Other than that I think this game is lovely and there are plenty of missions (90?) so I don't get why people are complaining. It takes me and hour to finish one mission so 90 hours of gameplay for a $8 game? Come on guys quit complaining! xD (even though that is what i'm doing here). I know you have a lot on your plate but if Mr. O'Connor reads this then thanks and you made a great game!

Now time to complete those other missions! >:) :MGTags:

I would like to correct not 90 missions its closer to 72 but still, that is a lot of missions!

I wanted it to be hard to identify where the enemy actually is and to be able to gauge their strength. I nearly didn't add the squad markers for the enemy squads but there's always got to be a trade off between realism and gameplay I guess.

> I think the circles are a good idea but when zoomed out they blend in with the enviorment.

I'll look into making them expand a bit as you zoom out.

> So when it says I lost Jimmy I could click on the update and it would move my screen to Jimmy's dead body.

Good idea that! I'll get that done.

The click and hold is to allow you to adjust the fire position so you can see the LOS lines. You can also use that just to get the LOS lines without having to open fire.

> For the mortar I'd like something similar to the artillery where it shows the target location

Good idea that too. I've put it on the TODO list.

> When reinforcements arrive can there be a bugle (bugel?) sound or something obvious

There should be a clunk sound. I'll check if that's not working

> Someone else already mentioned but a manual would be nice to explain what the speech bubbles mean like "AMMO!" and "MEDIC!"

Yes, that does need an explanation. You don't need to take any action when that happens, the men take care of things. A wounded man will shout "Medic!" and any nearby friendly troops who aren't pinned down will try to move over to the wounded man and administer some first aid. Half the members of each squad carry spare ammo for the LMG and will try and move over to the machine gunner when he's getting low on ammo and shouting "Ammo!". It would have been clearer if when the man reached the destination they shouted something like "I'm here!" or "Take the ammo!" but as my budget for this game was pretty close to zero there was only a limited amount of speech sound effects I came across. If the game keeps selling well on Steam I'll look into getting some professional voice effects done.

> One thing I noticed with the unit icons in the bottom right is that the MG34 icon looks like he is carrying a MP40

I'll take a look at that, but again I was on such a tight budget I just made use of whatever graphics I could afford a friend of mine to come up with.

> One thing I'd like is a COMPLETED marker on missions we've won

Yes, that was something I really should have thought of earlier! It's on the TODO list now too.

Thanks for some really great suggestions and please keep them coming. I'll get to work straight away!

Thanks for looking at my suggestions. I get that you are busy so take your time on making these features! :)

I've played your game some more and I understand why you didn't add muzzle flashes as the "tracers" are a big enough give away!
