What is the difference between this and the original. I never played the original but i own it.
I've bought and enjoyed quite a few of the remasters that have come out this year.
I've also sat in Steam forums while people hate on the remasters for their pricing or ask why should i pay for this instead of just play the original.

I own the original for whatever reason never played. I think it may have been gifted to me way back or picked up as part of a bundle / steam sale.

The context here is that i'm not trying to ask this question as part of the typical steam hate bandwagon we see in games today but as someone genuinely curious and as someone who didn't even know this game was getting a remaster.

What is new and upgraded. I see that the visuals have been repainted but the original isn't even that old.

What else does this remaster offer and what are the benefits (aside form resolution) in this over the original especially for someone who will most likely play a game like this on the steam deck where surely up-scaled visuals won't make a difference?

I can see lots of fans here so i hope this question doesn't come across as inflammatory and hopefully can generate some sensible answers so i can make a properly informed decision.

Thanks,

I haven't played the Anniversary Edition yet, but I followed some comments from the creator.

according to his previous posts:
- remixed and remastered music/sound
- repainted visuals (also bigger ones for larger screens)
- new animations
- multiple new levels (somewhere someone said 40+ levels)
- a 15h commentary

Both versions are Steam Deck verified. While the bigger resolution won't do much on the Steam Deck, I expect the new animations and the repaints to look better.

I believe there are a bunch of reviews out, as of yesterday, that probably cover the differences.

Why original game removed? Can you add it in package with original?

Thanks
Was looking for user experiences as i don't tend to look at reviews.
Edit: Also i worry some reviews will spoil stuff - a 16 year old game but i still don't know what happens at the end and i've had games spoiled before by youtubers.

BadKarMa's explanation covers the main points. The 40 new levels is accurate; some of these are very large, some of them are smaller hub levels that you use to get to others, and some are hypothetical redesigns to show what some levels *might* have been like if different decisions were made. There are 16 new puzzle pieces, but sometimes you solve puzzles (that don't involve puzzle pieces) to get to the puzzle pieces.

Ok thanks for that. Sounds like a large amount of content.

I really appreciate that the older visuals are still in the game. I love remasters that let you toggle between both versions as i find it really interesting to see what has changed.

I notice the audio has changed as well for the remaster. There is more reverb or something and it sounds much better.

Looking forward to getting into this.
