Bug Report: 'Overtaken' first goomba can be impossible to pass
I hate to make a report with no footage or reproduction steps to confirm it, but it absolutely happened to me, so it might happen to other people too.

When I found the commentary puzzle 'Overtaken' I was confused because it was impossible to pass the first Goomba. Whether I walked forward or jumped it would always fall on top of me and kill me. I thought 'wait, is this a puzzle about puzzle game jank and I don't know the tech because I didn't read all the developer logs??'

Eventually I rewound back to the start of the room and tried again, and now the Goomba fell in front of me and I was fine to just walk forward! After that I could rewnid, leave the room, quit the game and come back to the puzzle, etc. and it never killed me again.

I did have the game running for a long time, was tabbing in and out a lot, etc, and it was starting to have brief periods where it was lagging and skipping, so I wonder if there was some technical issue related to leaving the game open for a long time that slightly changes the physics.

Sorry I can't give more info than that.

That's just after the commentary that talks about the rewind physics varying slightly and having to be fudged to make the shipping deadline so I assumed it was intentional.

I don't think it's intentional, since it's not deterministic on 'if you enter the room and do certain actions you die/don't die'.

Yeah happened to me too, just had to leave the room and re-enter it and it worked right on the second go.

same, except it was on the 3rd go

me too. Wasted a minute on futile attempts until I re-entered the room and suddenly everything worked as intended.

It's easy to replicate. If you simply push right without releasing the key, goomba will fall in front of you as planned, but if you do small steps interrupting the timeflow, goomba will fall on Tim face. I think it's just the issue of numerical precision.
