stuck at 45 fps on steam deck oled
runs like garbage on oled deck. i assume because the vsync is ignoring refresh rate and halving the max of 90

Only did World 2 and 3, but it runs at 90fps on my OLED Steam Deck.

I get only 37 FPS no matter what settings.

I'm seeing really bad performance when walking / scrolling the levels, at least on my first time through them. Game usually runs at 95 FPS (my screen's max refresh rate) but when new parts of the level scroll in it can dip and stutter severely, which is surprising giving the type and age of the game (higher res not withstanding; the 2080ti I'm using should cope with that!).

Hoping it's something the devs can fix, but there's definitely a performance issue there at the moment.

In case it matters, I'm on a multi-monitor system and running the game at 4K with GSync enabled for all screens. (Only the middle screen has the game.)

I ran into this problem on my Windows 11 laptop. In the save folder of the game I found a log.txt file. In it I found the following lines:
Framerate settings: Game thinks vsync is on. Screen refresh rate 144.0. Sanitized screen refresh rate 144. Min render every n frames set to 1. Render every n frames set to 3. Target framerate 48.0.
And in the game settings file the "render_every_n_frames" option is 1, not 3.

P.S. I found a README file in the folder of the game, which contains a description of the game settings file. It helped me to change the value of "requested_fullscreen_res" option from -1 to 5.

This game should be run at 60 fps smoothly but in steam deck is stuck at 48 fps and this is frustrating, any fix to that problem?

no excuse for this to run lower than 60

The game should run at full frame rate and we are interested in debugging any issues that some Deck users are having very quickly. (We have several Steam Decks ourselves).

On my Steam Deck OLED the game is running at 60 so this may be an interaction with some system settings that you have that are not the default, or ... something else. If you send your log.txt to support_steam@thekla.com along with a description of the problem, it will help us figure it out. Thank you!

I have also just applied the May 13th Steam Deck software update and the game still runs at 60 with that.

45fps stuck, no idea where is the problem, how I can create a log txt file?

running at 90 fps for me, but, will drop to 45 randomly, the game js forcing a tripple buffer vsync. so if the fps srutters, it goes to 45, half of 90. if you limit this game to 60fps on a oled. it will lock to 45.
23 fps in level 6.............. right.....

I have a similar issue where the game keeps deciding to lock to half my refresh of 120hz even with vsync off. Very annoying.

I hope they solve this problem, I just bought the game again to play it on my OLED and it doesn't work well :(

Hello, sorry you're having a poor experience on Steam Deck. The latest patch should help. I'll quote myself from this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/499180/discussions/0/4358999171577887390/

May 16th patch should hopefully improve your experience on Steam Deck OLED. Here's a little insight into what's going on.

Because of its unique time mechanics, Braid uses a fixed timestep integrator. It can run at any frame rate, but the absolute best experience is a consistent, high frame rate that is divisible by 60. Generally we try to target a multiple of the display refresh rate that we can maintain consistently. On the 90 Hz OLED, that ended up being 45 FPS in a lot of situations. That is perhaps prioritizing stable frame rate too heavily over high frame rate. Compounding things was the fact that the frame rate limiter on Steam doesn't actually report a change in the refresh rate to the game, so to the game it just looks like the device can't maintain full frame rate.

In this patch we're trying to give you two different options. Without the frame rate limiter, the game will prioritize high frame rate over stable frame rate. We think a variable 75 FPS, for example, will be a better experience than a fixed 45. Additionally, we're more compatible with the frame rate limiter. If you want a stable frame rate, you can now enable the frame rate limiter at whatever value you think is appropriate, and the game should respect that.

Thanks for your feedback so far. I'd love to hear more about your experience with the latest patch!
