Mouse Issue [SOLVED-ish]
I tried posting this in the Bugs/Support thread a couple days ago:

"I cannot click on anything with the mouse. In the main menu, I can move the mouse and see the mouse pointer, but I can't click on menu items. I have to hit enter on the keyboard to make selections. When I start a career, I can move the mouse pointer around, but can't click on anything. Hitting enter doesn't work when pointing at an item in career. Escape does not work when trying to exit back to the main menu. I have to force quit the game in task manager.

I've tried reinstalling the game, checking file integrity through Steam, and plugging my mouse into different ports. I've tried restarting my machine. None of that worked. I would really like to check this game out!"

Since then, I even tried a different mouse and had the same issue. Also, there are no error logs or anything. Just the mouse not working in game. Any ideas?

Make sure the text goes red before you click on them. Other than that, I have no clue. sorry.

This sounds like a your game and pc are clashing somehow and causing inputs to not be properly handled.

Olibob, yeah I've done that and also double-clicked, right clicked, and middle clicked. Thanks for your input.

Soharuda, that's what I'm thinking, too. I just have no clue where to look to try to fix the problem. Obvioulsy it would be different if this happened in other games or programs, but it is only with this game.

So I got the game to crash. I went into Free Ride, or at least tried to. The game crashed at the splash screen and I found the error.log. I posted its contents over at the error.log thread.

Notice it says io.ControlSet... maybe the issue is with that.

Free ride doesn't work for me either. Never checked error log for it though to see if I got something similar. Do you have a gamepad or anything else plugged in?

I did have my xbox controller in, but I unplugged that thinking it might be causing some conflict. That didn't work.

I just tried out a quick race and was able to do that. Raced around a bit and everything works fine with that. I was able to press escape and exit to the main menu.

So I can control things with the keyboard for the most part as I'm able to go through menu items and also go into the settings and change things there. But if I go into career mode and only try to use the keyboard, I can't make any selections. I can still move the mouse pointer over the items and the icons get bigger, but can't click, hit enter, or spacebar on them. I've tried every key on the keyboard. Only thing I can do is rotate the camera with my arrow keys.

What OS are you on? I have my game on administrator mode with compatibility mode set for Windows XP. Since it's based on the game from back then. OS is windows 10

I am on Windows 10 and tried compatibility mode for 7, but will try XP. Will let you know what happens. Thanks for all your help!

I'm glad to help as much as I am able to. At work so I can't use my computer to look into it at all. Going from programming memory and common issues that can cause major problems

Alright, that didn't work. Tried XP and also Vista. Will have to try again later.

Hopefully image-code will see it and be able to offer better assistance.

Quick question. Are you using a wireless mouse or wired and can you tell me the port number? You might check your PC's hardware information to see if it conflicts with any other ports or connected hardware.

I am using a wired, usb mouse. It doesn't appear to have any conflicts on IRQ 18.

Ok... So I went and found a different mouse of mine, this one being wireless and different from another wired mouse I had tried. Plugged in the reciever to the USB port and started the game. The mouse worked! Even worked in career! Here's the kicker... Now the mouse I was trying to use before works! I don't get it... but it all works now and I can play.

I honestly don't know what happened. All I know is when I plugged in this other mouse, it made the game realize it can work with a mouse now. I'm using the mouse I want and everything is great. Thanks to everyone that chimed in to help.

Glad it worked. :steamhappy:
