Tire sizes?

Am I just not knowing knowledge on tires or do the rim sizes just not make sense?

It all makes sense, the main thing to worry about is radius, which is the 2nd number for rims (9.0x17) and the 'R' number for tyres (225/45 R17)
As long as these match, they'll usually be compatible.
If not, look for wider/narrower ones depending on what the game tells you in the error message, this is the first number for both. (9.0 and 225 in this case)

Well, rims width is defined in inches, and tyres width in mm.

So if you buying 9.0x19 rim, you will need ~230/XX R19 tyre. (225 or 235 tyre can fit I guess)

P.S. XX is height of tyre, which is % of it's width. In this case, 230/40 R19 tyre will be 230x0.4 = 92mm height. So your total wheel height will be 92mm + 19 inches = ~585 mm
