Strat Game About Hoarding Resource Monopolies?
I'm looking for a Strategy Game About Hoarding Resource Monopolies. Nearly EVERY game I've ever played, gets the fundamental cause or structure of most wars - dead WRONG.

Wars can be about greed, about religion, about fear; BUT, the reality is nearly every war has revolved around resources - either protecting the resources you have (and or need) to function or taking them. Why does an empire, target a specific region?

In many cases, it has been about certain valuable resources being concentrated in only a few locations. Then those locations are sized and capitalized upon. The holder now can either use their gained prized monopolies in mercantile capitalization or empower a war machine to gain more power - but it's still about holding better / resources cards.

Idealistically, a game should concentrate specific resources in a certain region (maybe a central region to make it more accessible) then that region is fought over for the edge.

An example of course could be fuel that allows for cheaper, longer, faster (whatever)unit range. Or it could be a special ore, which makes the military stronger, or a medicine, or maybe an extreme agg product.

With these resources you have something better, others do not, without it you suffer, and find a way to compensate (perhaps trade for it).

Many years ago, I played a game that got it right... wish I could remember what it was...

A game that got it right, just on a far too small-scale, would be Rogue State - you could get lucky to be the only country that sells oil (or nearly), and everyone wants to trade with you, and wars are likely to go in your favor...

Can this game be played in such a way with specific settings, DLC, or mods? Perhaps another game out there t that does it right / better?

This is just a slowly expand till you can kill the end boss kind of game. Build towns everywhere and build towers everywhere and sooner or later you will win. Hardest part is early game , if you lose your main army you can't come back from that.

Most of my games end up with 99% of the map under my control , any units the Boss tries to spawn are instant killed by 100+ towers ( which can't be destroyed once built ).
