Creating a Map

so, like the title says, I would like to create a map for this game, however, I cannot find an answer to a few questions. For one, what is the file type they are using here? Like, does the map editor need an alpha? i literally cannot find a single tutorial or even a general idea of how to make maps but for something telling me how to upload to steam. i already know how to do that, i need to know what tools to use, for example. do i need photoshop to make the maps? it's fine if i need to use scripting, i just need an actual answer. please. thanks for any input.
