Some Tips
I just want to share some tips regarding my strategy to play this game, atm im on year 26 with almost 100 populations (92 adult atm) with all my expeditions completed, so here we go,

1. This game is NOT Banished, the clear example is the gathere's hut. You don't need to place it far from your village, first time you build, just place a gatherer hut nearby your first barn, staff it with 3 people, and believe me, that thing is really OP. I believe this because, as long as there are some empty spots on your village, some random mushrooms/plants will grow and the gatheres will harvest them

2. The same goes for hunter's hut. Build one near your initial village (covering almost all your village, so no rabies / wild animals) , but staff it with only 2 people, because i find the spawn rate of wild animals are rather slow.

3. Destroy the earth !! . what i mean is that, during your first 3 years of playing, just forages everything, from stone clay hay , everything. you can remove your gatherers during winter to help foraging

4. This is only my way of play, but i like rushing school asap. I built my school on years 3. It's possible with my strat, 3 people as gatherer's , 2 on hunter's, later put 1 as lumberjack, then put the rest to forage everything, build clay pit asap, make 1 miner until it reach 160 clays, then stop, and forages moaar. My reason for this because, with educated people , they are much more effective at workings and building and stuffs

5. DON'T build hostel or house. Seriously, i thought the hostel would work as boarding house in Banished, but NOPE. baby will still able to born on hostels. When i build mine, a sudden boom of 16 baby appearing on my village lol. And about the house, 2 small houses placed beside each other will cover same populations and it's a lot cheaper to build and upgrade. only build house or hostel if you are already rich

6. this is like cheat but anyway, to "cheat" your pasture populations, (for example cows, they breed soo slow) , make your main pasture, then tadaa 1 cow ! , and then, build a 10x10 cow pasture (the smallest possible size) , and relocate that cow on your main pasture, then delete the small pasture, keep doing this till you feel you have enough cow hohoho.....

7. Build multiple charcoals maker, they are lots more efficiens than firewood ( i have 4 for my 100 populations) , and only 1 upgraded sawmill with 2 workers

8. People starve to death cause they got no home? it's already discussed, you can make new house, and then as soon as it finished, you upgrade your old house, or after you're rich enough, after making new one, instanlt upgrade it after it's done

9. Because the gatherer's hut already provide me with abundant vegetables, i dont find any need to make my fields on vegetable plants, and instead i can focus on flax / corn / oats / hay. Remember if you on dire need of foods, just make new gatherer's hut on your town or near your barn, and watch your villagers got sick of eating only vegetables all the time huehue.

hmm well i think that's all i can think of at the moment, if you have other tips, i will be happy to know ^^.

Glad to see someone has managed to create a big village and that it's possible. I've played a lot of Banished and had towns with 2000+ citizens, but it's obvious you can't play this game like Banished and expect to succeed. The GUI is similar, but the balancing and mechanics are different.

It's pretty silly that your villagers will murder the child if there's no space, though. Surely they can squeeze in an extra bed somewhere... In Banished, children will simply live with their parents if there are no free houses which makes more sense.

Build a carpenter, and he will create crude tools.

babies cannot move on their own, which is why they die. Teens will move if there is room. If you need stone you can find it in the wild. Quarry isnt required early game. and yeah carpenter.

are you sure you are clicking the lumberjack lodge? the upgrade button is there just fine,

So, i made a new map, and guess what, the school construction costs now got reduced a lot, that's sweet. I made my school built as early as summer year 2 :). I'm still using the same strategy, 2/3 worker as gatherer, 2 as hunter, 1 as lumberjack only when firewood is really low, then the rest foraging all the materials nearby, then build school right away.
2 gatherer and 2 hunter were enough for me to survive year 1 with 900 bread not getting eaten at all :p
Another thing i notice, all the chopping/clanking sounds are there on 1st person mode, but gone once you go out of 1st person mode

Well there's no way to find 200 stone on the surface of the map. Maybe 200 in total on the entire map...
But yeah, the carpenter makes sense. I guess the blacksmith is more of an endgame building.

I disagree that this game is like banished because It is clearly not. Anyone who thinks that forest village is like banished you need to get your eyes checked because they are both different.

Have you even played Banished? All the menus and HUD items are Exactly copied from Banished. The 1st time I looked at this game, I thought it was made by the guy who made Banished. Sure there are a lot of differences, but EVERYTHING is pretty much an exact copy of Banished. Personally I really like the game, its more beautiful, but a lot slower, but really well made. But it is a very close clone of banished. Just upgraded.

I'll be damned. I never noticed the upgrade button on the lumberjack lodge. Thank you

You can find a lot more stone and ore than you'd think on the map . I modded myself an adam and eve start with the only building material being enough clay for a blacksmith, weaver and school and was able to find and harvest enough for all of those, a couple of houses, a kiln, a lumberjack and furnace without too much problem. It was a bit of running around for just two workers but entirely doable.

Many buildings have an upgrade button turned off. What should I do to open upgrades?
