Banished is better?
Ive played Banished in the past, and ive been playing this game alotlast few days.
This game started off great, but it seems like a game that is more fun in the early stages. Before you grow big.

So i am asking why this game is better than Banished?

Yep, Banished wins.
Forrest village got some game breaking issues that ruin the whole game.
For new players, keep in mind that everything has a distance. It doesnt matter if you mine ore in one location of the map, it might just be out of reach for those who need it if they are to far away. For example to make tools or build new buildings.....

Now, hold on....
Same goes for supplies, i just had 120 sheep starve to death cause the 8000 hay i had was to far away, and there is really no way to transport it. Same goes for firewood, make sure to make firewood everywhere, otherwise winter is gonna kill you.
You can have 4000 firewood in one end of the city, but it wont help those on the other side of the village.

That's it, im done with this crap.

Banished has more realistic game play, FV has more realistic visuals. Banished is completed (there are no new avenues of development and if it doesn't do what you want it probably won't be able to even with mods since modding directions had pretty much been explored a year or more a go), FV is still under active development. This means it's buggier (new code introducing new bugs), hasn't been optomized (earlier lag issues), will probably change (in ways you may or may not like, but in ways that may also either fix things or make things changable via mods.) First person in FV also makes a range of things possible that aren't in Banished and over all it is more immersive and over all is slower paced (slower speeds, needs slower expansion). Which is better is really a question of what you want in a game. Personally I like both a lot (you can tell by my hours in each and the fact I have all achievements) but find each lacking things I value.

Maybe ill give FV another go in a year. Then again.
Ancient cities is coming later this year and that looks very promising.

What i question is why they add wolfs and bears if their not gonna pose a threat. Force me to build fences gdi..
Tornados should be a "Oh ♥♥♥♥" as it was the first few times i saw then, then one hit my village and i was like "That was it?"
Plagues should be deadly. Not just "Ill man the doctors office and you can come in on monday"....

Now to the worse part.
If i have a woodchopping area set up that is streaming firewood, then they should be able to distribute around my village. Perhaps barns should have options to decide what goes in it and what doesnt? Obviously i want the hay in the barn next to my sheep? When my entire sheep herd starved because hay was in a barn to far away that is annoying.
It's also annoying that i need pies to send off an expedition. Banished has this way better.
Those pies are first to go whenever someone drop off to pick up food for his household....
Some off the answers in FV lies in banished so take advantage of it and improve...

Banished is not better it is different. I have nine hours play time on record for Banished and over 3.5 K hrs on record for FV.

FV has a better potential. This game has some really good elements going.
But as i said above. There are some game breakers.

Personally I don't think the distance part of game play (and it's actually the major challenge in the game, as opposed to disasters or attackers or whatever) is that hard to overcome. The caravans make it quite posssible to transport stuff, you just have to pay attention to amounts transferred if you don't use mods. FV is a game that penelizes distance and fast growth. Keep distances short and growth moderate (keep at least 70% of your population adults, more is better and population is controled by housing space so just don't build too many houses at once), and you'll be just fine.

I have no problem with food except that I have too much. Even with mods that expand the storage I have to keep building barns, castle barns, large barn from mod, small storage units etc. I use Caravans Extended mod and Sir Foxy's Traveling Caravan mod to keep barns equal in stuff.

Forest Village does take micro-mangement but that is to me part of the challenge of the game. As the village expands the game does get harder which in my opinion is how it should be.

Distance in FV is easy to overcome even for new players. Banished and FV are two different beasts FV has more potential but only cause it's a new game there are things in FV I like there are things in FV I really hate there are things in Banished I like there are things in Banished I wasn't fond of. At the end of the day FV and Banished are apples and oranges they can't be compared to each other cause they have different flavors.

It is not true that you can not compare Banished and Forest Village. They have same grapics, same gameplay and same interface.
In my opponion Banished is better in current state, especially with the Colonial Charter addons
(just realised a new CC was realeased I didnt try yet), but Forrest Village got alot more potential since the developers didnt banish it yet.
The music is better in Banished.

I agree with Black Jesus. Different camera controls, different graphics, different gameplay. You can compare both games to Settlers the original building game, or compare it to Cesear games, or Stronghold or CotN, or any other game. Some aspects will be favorable and some unfavorable. The Funatics Culture Series games allowed citizens to forage for food, well it wasn't much in the way of food but at least they could go find something. :)
Black Jesus Feb 12, 2018 @ 2:22pm
Same graphics? Have you ever played Banished?

And no Banished and FV are two different beasts Banished was more macromanagement focused you could sit there and eventually reach a point where you do nothing but look at charts and build dozens of houses and maybe the occasional farm, it's faster paced, and is more big picture focused.

FV is very micromanagement heavy, slower paced, everything has to be manually tended too you don't have a lot of macro in FV. I found that out the hard way with it's distribution system. The two games are as different from each other as World of Warcraft is from Call of Duty.
cstoneburner Feb 12, 2018 @ 2:57pm
Yeah, Banished you could reach a point in a well designed game where it could just run. I once left a game running for 8 hours on max speed and came back to find it working fine, although in need of some rebuilding (there's another difference, in Banished they won't repair things without prompting.) You can't do that in FV. Whether this is a plus or minus really depends on what you want out of your games. For me, I am evidently more likely to keep playing if I can't completely optomize, although I do find the process of optomizing fun. I suppose I might have more hours in Banished if they CC folks were into medieval rather than early modern - enlightment eras (it's not their fault that I happen to hate those periods with a burning passion - blame on bad history teachers ) but it does make their additions less interesting for me. Again it boils down into what makes things fun for YOU.

Even I, as soon as I saw FV I thought: it's the update of Banished. But they didn't want to give us away as an update like "Banished2" and so they developed a new game under a different name, a little bit different. For example better graphics, more detailed views.

And when I saw the video and when I saw the vegetables, the UI user interfaces etc. I felt confirmed. :)

Thats really sad people compare banished with such a poor game like FV, only thing FV done better is graphics, everything else is better in banished. Both games are so different its disrespectful to both of them to do it.

People love eye candy games for a reason, because they look good and thats all you need.
Can we finally stop this madness what is better banished or Forest Village. They are both good in their own way.

Banished WAS good at its time.
Graphics outdated, 4k and ui .. awful when i played it years ago;
not multi-core optimized;
unmodded I was through in a few days, great fun but boring after a short time.
no castle structures in vanilla;
transport system no challenge;
too easy after some time;

forest village
Great graphics in 4k, UI scale was fixed very fast, overall performance is quite good, not perfect but in comparison to banished with high population it is much smoother on my machine.
claiming me more since it has teraforming and castle structures and a "difficult" transport system.
@wood: yes it is true that it is harder to master the production/transport but I think it is more realistic.
use "caravan extended" mod for that problem, i use it to supply my distant "suburbs".

Both game have good mods already and it is just a matter of personal preferences what u make out of each game!
Because of the better " basis" what means 4k graphics, UI and the handling in general, I prefer FV.
Something like CC-mod would be a dream for me:)
