Your animals are sick? I have had them starve becausssssse I ran out of the food for them but not get sick. Please give us more information.

I believe that the only way to “cure” sick animals is to slaughter them before the disease spreads to the other animals in the pen. Sick animals will be prioritised when slaughtering, meaning that you will either need to kill a few or the whole lot of them depending on the amount of sick animals.

@Sir Foxy, in all my hours of play I have never noticed a sick animal. Do you know what causes it? Could it be caused if a wild animal wanders in? I haven't seen it in the scripts but wasn't looking for it either.

I’ve only had it happen once in a chicken coop so I can’t say what causes it or how frequent it is. The one thing that I did find can be read in the patch notes (1.0.6285).

You will see a proper icon over the pasture if there is sick animal in it. “Slaughter” button will slaughter diseased animal first.

I've had my chickens catch rabies. They contract it from wild animals venturing into the pen.

Building better fences, having hunters nearby, and situating animal yards away from village outskirts help prevent animals from getting sick.

I had to kill off the whole coop... but, I recall a later patch made it so you could just kill off the infected animal. 'Greener Pastures' is the only animal hospital. Sorry.

P.s. Herdsmen can catch diseases from infected herd animals.

Thanks guys, now I know why I have never seen it. I build my pastures in the village. I have a hunter hut near the village, I build defensive towers upgraded to at least level II and to top it all off I use the mod Armed and Dangerous. Herders are supposed to protect the animals, a child could take them food and water, the adults should do more. :) I do use Free Range Animals because I like the more realistic midieval look and sometimes will lose one animal who strays too far.

My villagers think I am very capable. :steamhappy:

They weigh your prudent protective policies up with your dubois stance on child labour and celebrate your reign at the harvest festival.

usually just killing a few animals clears it up for me.

On a farm a child works. Some things are fun and some aren't but everyone pitches in. My villagers aren't lazy, sometimes stupid but not lazy. :steamhappy:

Thank you all for the great information. I was figuring that I had to slaughter some chickens. I started to but it was looking like it was going to be the whole coop. That wild animals were the cause of the sickness. Thank you all again.

If you do lose all the chickens or other animals in a pasture build the smallest one possible and rotate the animal into the old pasture. Destroy the new pasture. I did that with my cows just to build up a pasture quickly.

Good luck with your village.:steamhappy:

FYI you don't have to kill all your animals if the whole lot get sick you can just kill all but 2 and then when they have babies you can kill the sick parents

Went afk and let it grind some Resources for me. Came back 10 gameyears later and every person had rabies. Had to slaughter my Coop Down from 90 to 8 chickens.

Note to self: Don't do that again.
