charcoal vs. firewood
So charcoal is more efficient than firewood. Does anyone know the specific consumption per capita ? Or why ist charcoal more efficient? Because it takes up less storage space? Or because people don't have to replentisch their burning reserves as often?

Consumption varies, depending on mostly housing type, but also weather variations from year to year. It may also depend on if someone is in the house and I am unsure if kids count. It's calculated per building ratyher than per person. Both in game and in real life, charcoal burns hotter so you need less for the same degree of heating. I'm not on my computer so I can't check numbers right now.

Ok, back on. Here are the numbers from the game.

It looks like charcoal also burns longer.

fire time warm firewood 40000 4000000 coal 56000 6500000

Yeah but you need an extra crafter that spends time making it, that also needs food etc.
So is it 16k of whatever worth it?
(what is it anyway, irl seconds, in game minutes... ?)

Nope, charcoal is made from firewood, not logs, so it's a direct increase, barring the associated costs of making it.

Yes it really does turn out worth it. Anything that decreases people stopping what they're doing for a job is almost always worth it in this game. It's why unmodded pies, even tho they are very slow to make are worth mixing into the diet when folks are busy. Running around is what kills in this game. Also the reduction in wood use is worth to keep your wood consumption in check and leave your woods for hunting and gathering.
