Donkeys
I have sent 3 expeditions out and each time I have requested Animals. I have received sheep, cattle and pigs. No problem there. I want Donkeys so I try to select the animal icon again but it is greyed out. The obvious question is ,"How do I get Donkeys". I am using the Expedition mod if that helps

You need to have a place to put donkey's (stable, or, I assume a donkey farm, although I havent' checked) before they show up as an option.

I had to have the caravan stables built before I could get donkeys from an expedition. Even if you have all the other animals, an animal expedition wasn't available (for me at least) until I had one built. When the expedition came back, I had a single donkey in the stables. Build a donkey farm once that happens and move the sucker in there to get it multiplying, though it takes a reeeaaalllyyy long time.

Thank you. As I found out by trial and error the stable has to be built first. I was led to believe that the stable was not going to provide a donkey and the only way to get a donkey was by expeditions. Since building the stable the animal icon is back at the dock and I have my one and only donkey in the farm to hopefully breed

I think I can add some new findings...
1. Donkeys can live in a caravaan place or a donkey farm.

2. You can get donkeys by expedition up to the maximum the caravaan place host. Precondition to get donkeys via expedition seems to be that you have researched all other animals such as sheep, cow, pig before AND that you have a donkey farm AND a caravan station (not sure).

3. Donkeys do not breed at caravaan stations - but you can move them to the donkey farm with the "move to other stable" button below the donkey head image at the caravaan station.

4. Donkeys breed peacefully at the donkey farm. There they need food and caretakers.

Actually as long as you have a space to put one donkeys show up as one of the random choices. Or did in some previous patches (no clue currently). I've had them show up from expeditions before sheep.

One thing regarding the donkey farm is that the donkeys there have no protection like they do in the stables because the first time I built a donkey farm, the wild animals came and had a feast!

I had the same problem but cstoneburner told me that building a level two tower will help protect them also building a hunters hut nearby will also help.

Thanx for the reminder regarding the watchtower! :)

Also if you can find maps where there is a peninsula off the start place you have a GREAT place for raising livestock, including donkeys. Just keep it clear of trees and as long as you have hunters keeping your village safe your livestock usually is too.

Hunters are unreliable, they kill one thing walk off for an hour to transport, eat, get clothes, come back. half your stock is dead. LoL. I put up 3 hunter camps with 9 hunters, they barely did their job.

The towers on the other hand, soon as an amimal comes in range, dead, and my worker goes out and collects the meat/hide. forget having Hunter camps, few watch towers, and laborers.

My donkeys are breeding so fast I am in heaven.

I don't know, the watchtowers don't do it instantly (I spent some time watching) and they don't provide hides or meat. Which may or may not be a good thing.

If I'm reading what you are saying correctly, when the watchtowers first came out, they shot the animals and nothing was left behind. But I notice now that when the animals are shot, thereare meat & hide deposited, which a laborer picks up when they have a chance.

I just did a test tower (I'm playing with modding the castle walls to get them to connect if not perfectly then at least better with towers, the keep and on diagonals) and stick some chicken coops around it. What I have found is that the foxes and wolves disappear, although not necessarily before they get a chicken and they don't leave anything behind (the only meant I'm getting is from the chickens as I have no hunters and I'm getting no hides at all). Bears and boars seem to be ignored which means they won't be a solid protection against rabies either. However as a supplement to hunters they seem to be useful.
