Hermit of Tide disappeared?

I got the Hermit of Tide and used him to get the great ballista. I never had my wall breached but after doing my usual back and forth I noticed he was nowhere to be found. He wasn't carried off. He wasn't by the castle. He was not taken by greed.
I have gotten through a few games with him and learned a few things so was very careful. I finally just took off to next island and boom there was his hut again, with him in it. I thought we had to carry him on the horse when we got on the ship. Kinda confused as to the mechanics of this guy
1. Once he jumped off in danger and was carried away by the greed.
2. Once he was on my back and I portalled-I never saw him again
3. This last time I was ultra careful but he still disappeared
Does he disappear after you make a ballista? I thought you could make as many as you wanted? If you carry him on your horse to next island, do you have an opportunity to get another Hermit? If you do get another hermit, how do you bring them both with you?

Those things are very glitchy and will sometimes just disappear.

They will often walk around the town, and even move out of the walls. I lost two Hermit that way, They would just for no reason walk out of the wall and got carried away .

-You can build multiple ballista towers with him, he will be with you permanently until he gets carried away
-Yes you can get another hermit, even the same type (so you will have two same hermits)
-you can only bring one hermit at a time

I recommend you to wait that your tower are lvl max before buying hermits, they are really slow and will sometime go out of your walls and get taken away by greeds.

We need to wait an update to buy them safely. Hope a dev see your thread.
