♥♥♥♥ Winter
I absolutely hate winter.

I went in with the mentality of classic Kingdom where I would destroy the portals within 20-30 days or so. I was stockpiling as many archers as I could. Every time I would get about two bagfulls of gold. As you can expect, I was feeling like a true king. Then ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ winter came. I sent out some knight thinking I could destroy the portal. AW HELL NAW, FAM. They got rekt pretty quickly. So, since I had stack upon stacks of gold and people, I sent more knights. All rekt. At that point, I had exausted all of my gold, so I went to the archers. All were equally broke. Worse yet, I forgot to pay the merchant.
Went from king to broke man 2016 in a day.
Now I am chasing deer around the woods like a zulu warrior who has no weapon trying to kill it with my archers.
So yeah.
♥♥♥♥ WINTER.

But great game though.

Even though hunters won't get bunnies during winter farms DO produce gold -if- they were built and the farmers assigned before winter.

I'm p. sure winter was put in to break the tactic of "recruit archers and nothing else and don't expand".

Hmm thanks for the tip. I was thinking the same thing, but they were just not a good investment back in classic so I didnt pay much attention to them. I know what im doing in spring.

I made the same mistake-built farms after winter set in-farmers won't go to them. Archers won't shoot rabbits either-even though they are hopping all over the place. Funny-I would have thought you could hunt rabbits in winter but not grow crops.....well, bears eat grass too...
Anyway--you better get the farms in place or winter is LONG and repetitive with a merchant practically your only income. And did I mention Winter seems like it's forever?

Is there a way to make money in winter? I mean no animals to hunt, and farmers dont farm... shall we just stack gold to survive winter?
P.S. how long in days does it take?

I'm not sure if he makes money (via interest?), or just stores it but the banker can really help tide you through.

I have found that to have a cash flow in the winter, give money to the Banker and in the long run you will make money (with interest). Plus winter never ends so destroy as many portals as posable before it starts and just hunker down and when it starts try to stay alive

I had winter still on day 65 on 2nd island. No farm, no bunnies-wait for merchant, get coin, go to buff archer statue, wait for attack. Finally a bloodmoon was too much as they got harder and harder. Pretty sure you don't reap full farm crops either (maybe 50%)
If you do not ship off for winter make sure you.
1. Have a farm or 2 BEFORE winter starts
2. Save as much gold as you can with merchant
3. Be prepared to be bored to death-not fun
BTW-after I lost crown, restart new game gave I still had the Archer Statue from last game so it keeps fragments you have earned
It really was very boring and repetiitve and over penalized for not knowing a game mechanic.

Do you know you can give your Knights about 7 coins each to buff their HP before they attack, then keep feeding them coins to heal their HP during the attack?

And farms do work in winter but at half size (max 2 farmers I think, barring obstacles on the ground). Unlike the base game, a ton of farms is very desireable in this game, especially if you are a new player (who will take more time to get off the island and thus likely hit winter) or are just someone who generally likes to take their time building up (rather than min-maxing for a super-efficient build).

IDK what you're talking about with the farms before winter. All my farms stop working when winter comes. The only source of gold then is what your people have stored and what you stored in the castle.

I'm also curious about the length of winter, since I once waited for about 20+ days and it was still winter and I got bored and left. It really is not fun since you can't do anything. All the gold was saved for the archer buff as it was essential for me to survive.

Farms work in winter. Shrug. Not sure how else to put it. As long both the farm and the farmer was built before the first snowflake fell. However in winter, farms are half the size they usually are. (ie they support only 2 farmers instead of the usual 4 or 5).

If your farms are not working in winter then either:

a) You built your existing farmers after winter set in

b) You have obstacles on the farm land.

c) It's a bug.

I've used the farms-settled-before-winter plan in the past too, but in my current kingdom on the last island, all the farmers ditched their farms at the start of winter. Could be that winter is strictly enforced on the last island, because I've noticed all rabbits and deer disappeared this time around... O:

If winter does end, it definitely takes a very very long time. Winter didn't end after day 101 even on the first island xD

The way you describe it makes it look like working farms in winter is a bug. Why should it matter when you built them? BTW yes all my farms were built before winter (way, way before) and they were working, not blocked. After winter, everyone came to castle and eventually became normal peasants.

2nd Island:
Bloodmoon-Day 8, 11, and another forgot
Autumn Day 20
Don't kill 2nd portal-if all you have left is Cliff Portal you will get very much harder greed. Leave the one standing on same side as cliff portal. Cliff Portal is bloodmoon source I think.
Good idea to have a portal by the Archer Statue so you can keep it buffed

Farmers worked during winter for me... as long as they were established before winter (as a note - I keep all my farms at level 2. Maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe level 1s don't work during winter?) - but I've only played to isle 4 so far.

I am pretty sure winter simply does not end :). I'm pretty sure they put in in the game so it eventually becomes a attrition game where you have to really micro-manage the little gold you still have to get as far as possible. You will eventually perish somewhere in the 100-200 days range because the monster waves get stronger and your gold pool will just slowly dwindle away.
