I'd like to help with people trying to improve at their Kingdom building-this will have spoilers and will give the basics on how to survive the 5 lands:
"Dogs, what do they do?"
this is asked a lot. Well, drop a coin on the tree that fell on them, and they'll be a helper for you to bark at incoming trouble-the dog barks in directions he sees the nearest threats.
"What does the ghost do?"
It seems to point you to the beginning camp, so you can get started, though ive seen the ghost point me somewhere only to get me to the edge of a map at a portal. The best way to find your base on a new island is to pay a bum, they'll walk immediately in the direction of the your base.
"Who is that fat guy who wanders around my camp with the book? (The tax guy)?"
He keeps your coins for you-if you pay him enough. Then, when he stores your coins, you can get them back the next day. Keep paying him and taking and you'll end up with some nice storage that helps when you're overflowing with money and when the wintertime comes.
"Why build a boat?"
The focus in Kingdom New Lands is the boat building-build one up, and you will sail to the next land. Also a tip for those who dont know where the boat is going, so you dont have to go allll the way out to find out, the ship has a front called a bow and it is larger than the back of it-the large front bow is where the boat will go when it set sails after building.
Also the trees seem to slow down the builders who move the boat (up to 3), but the difference in speed versus clearing is up for debate.
"What do the mounts do?"
Remember, stuff unlocks on those 2 coin signposts. The bear runs for a very short time but when charging animals he kills them. The Shielded Horse can run far, and when it shines (a big bright flash and star eminating from its eye), it gives your soldiers 15 seconds of invulnerability. The Unicorn will crap out 3 coins when it stops to eat grass. The Stag is super fast and crosses large distances easily-and the deer fall in love with it if you stand still and will follow you to their doom at the hands of the archers.
"What do the farmers do and why aren't they working?"
Well, those streams you see that cost 3 coins are their farming spots, and they farm then, i think max 4 farmers per farm. They will retreat to the castle with no home built. But i wouldnt build them a home unless they have a wall protecting them outside their house/farm.
"Stupid workers, why dont they leave when they're done chopping trees or building the boat?"
Well, they do walk and sometimes run back at nightfall, so when you're done building or chopping, have them do something at your base to get them to move back. That, or drop coins behind them (towards where the enemies will come from) so you can buy time to get them back to base. I think this should have been fixed for New Lands since they've done this since Classic.
"Do i need to defeat all the portals?"
Early on, the first 2 or 3 islands, just concentrate on building everything up and then defeating the portals that houses the dock port (where you'll leave), but be warned, blood moons happen immediately after you defeat a portal now.
"I can't beat all these waves!"
Recruit many bums for archers. Also the statues can be given coins:Give the archer statue 4 coins for 1 day of extra firepower in your arrows, the builder statues make your walls a bit more sturdy (and last until the Greeder enemies beat the walls too much), so you dont need to keep coming back to this statue. The farmer statue im not too familiar with, but it seems it gives the farmers some protection while farming.
"Why isn't (item) unlocked?"
The item powerups like the Unicorn or little people are unlocked as you find the posts that are near the edges of the map-pay two coins to unlock a new tech/item/mount/etc, one per map, and it'll be there the next time you play. The sign posts seem to be near the boat ports.
"What does the little baker dude do?"
Well, at the archer rocks (that need 3 coins to upgrade) you upgrade several times, then have the little baker hop on your back and pay the final toll to unlock the bakery, then pay coins at the bakery to have bums run to you, immensely helpful in later islands.
"And the little dude who has a cap and feather (green person)?"
Well, they operate the same way:Archer towers can be upgraded to Ballista towers that use one builder to operate, a big spear to stab lots of the annoying Greeders. Very helpful in later levels.
"Aaand the little old man?"
This guy reminds me of the old man in Zelda 1. Again, upgrade an archer tower enough with him on your back to finally get another Knight. I'm not 100% sure, but i think any archer tower can be built to make more knights. Also, beware that the Greeder enemies will steal any little person on your mount if you are caught among the baddies-same for the dog, too. And the little folks don't like to ride with you at night in the woods, they'll hop off (but not when you're far out in the woods, regardless of time of day).
"Why don't my knights come with me to the boat?"
After you beat the portals that the boat port is on (your exit), pay each knight and his group 4 coins like you would send them out for attack, and they'll defend the boat for you and then go with you to the end of the level
"Why do my Knights steal coins?"
They don't, they collect them for health hits. So, 5-6 coins for a knight to have 6 hits of health against the night Critters.
"How do i select the islands?"
As you unlock them, (after a level is first cleared the clouds blow away to reveal new lands so you can only go where they unlock first) you can choose (after first clearing them on the next playthrough. For example, if you have 3 islands already cleared from your first playthrough, well after you beat the middle first island, THEN you can choose which land to go to.
I'm sure there's more stuff i'm missing, and i haven't played and discovered everything, so i'll add more later to this-this is just beginner stuff to help.
1 Go to your island, run to the camp and pick up all the coins, don't spend any.
2Run and find the sign post, pay 2 gold.
3 Drop all the remaining gold, find the enemy and lose.
4 Enjoy your new unlock
