Local co-op would seem like the obvious first step into that direction, as you can do a horizontal split-screen (R.I.P. epic water and sky) and don't need to implement any network code for that. This seems like a lovely game to play couch co-op with others on the big TV.
If Kingdom + NL does well, then perhaps for your next Kingdom-style game you might be willing to consider some form of competitive mode where the map is an infinite loop (so two players share two borders with each other). You could compete for farms, peasants and points of interest in between the "outer walls" with some form of capture the flag mechanic and a dynamically moving border. It would have to be a fairly different game though to ever translate well into a competitive multiplayer title - but the basic premise that you crush your enemy indirectly by strategically building an economy and a war machine could work well enough.
There's only so much of that there, you don't need more than 1 person to manage it.
Do you want a "get in each others way simulator"?
The only thing you could do is some minor gimmick like player 2 sits on your horse and can shoot a bow or something which is more trouble than it's worth.
It would be a shame if they wasted resources on this and break something in the process rather than doing some much needed polish.
Sure, what I'm saying though is that split screen would be a lot faster and easier to implement as a first step just to see how you would need to balance the game for 2 players and stuff.
no. no thank you.
Also a PvP type would be cool. The map would be a circle. With a players base of opposite sides. And there should be more peasents for a bigger army. You would have archers to defend and catapults and knight groups to attack. The players could fight over the relics and put knight to protect them or walls on each of the sides.
Something that would be nice is if local co-op players can just take control of one of the peasants on screen at the moment, that way they can do something instead of just watching.
If it happens, it's probably this.
