Why deer run in opposite direction?

I'm trying to lure them towards my archers, but they keep running in the opposite direction when i approach them.

It would be too easy if they ran towards your camp. The elk is your friend..and the best mount in my opinion..outside of the special event mounts. Get the Xmas mount and make a back up of your saved game in case you die. The Xmas mount is Super Elk.

I think it's unlocked on 3. Super Elk is at Xmas time.
