Note that with every portal you destroy, the counter attack gets explosively stronger.
The enemy will get more tough each night. If you don't plan to play through Day 100, do not linger, just move on, especially if you are still new on this game and haven't unlocked everything yet. You will not survive long after this.
I don't want to spoil you more than this, but there are some helpers to unlock in later islands. They will make the game easier with recruiting and defending your base.
Rabbits will spawn if you cut trees down. You'll earn a lot more money that way, just make sure grass grows, you can see little patches of it, it will spread. Clear at least two screens worth of trees each side. You don't want to clear too much as the archers won't get back behind the walls in time, you'll figure it out.
There maybe a camp in the way, cutting the trees down will remove the camp but at some point you'll need to remove it to earn more money. Get a good few people from it first, you'll figure that out as well.
Also, I’m doing a lot better now. I’m only attacking the portals occasionally, and usually after a blood moon, and it’s a lot easier to deal with! I still can’t last forever, but I can last until about 30, and then it’s best I leave, because the waves overwhelm the defenses I’m able to raise.
I did go and look up some videos from years ago and wow, apparently the game has changed a lot since then! They don't throw rocks over the walls anymore, and a lot of prices seem to have been changed. Seems a lot more balanced than it used to be.
