Eternal Winter?
Why does the winter never ever end? No farming anymore, no animals and no gold.... Why is there no natural cycle of seasons, spring following the winter and so on..... ? This game only has spring, summer, autumn and after this a winter for all eternity. Why this nonsense?

Making the waves of Monsters harder is the better way of applying pressure on the player in my opinion.
But instead adding an infinite Winter which the player isnt even warned about feels like an unfinished solution.
Espesially because you could get stuck because of this.

Exactly..... this eternal winter is a stupid solution, ruined my game and made me delete this otherwise beautiful game. You cannot even have savegames, only one little error and you have to do all back from the beginning, once you are overrun, no chance to rebuild or recover due to this stupid eternal winter. Why stealing my precious life time? Some people have family and to work and a real life as well and simply not the time to spend ten hours to play all the game from the very beginning again and again after each little error. Why not having save games like any other normal game has? There are human beings out there they just don't want to spend another ten hours doing all the same game from the very beginning again and again, getting punished by loosing a whole day of our lifetime for any little mistake we do. Why not letting have us fun allowing us to go back to a save game and try again from there? I personally do not want tp play a whole game from the very beginning after each mistake, that's not the way I understand fun, it's just tedious and boring. It feels like sadistic mind was programming this game. Most people are no hard core gamer nor professional gamers and have simply not the time for this nonsens. And on top of it this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ eternal winter where you don't even get a warning just wonder while all your effort gets ruined..... the way this game was designed just pisses me off and makes me angry. Just let us do save games and let's have this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ schit winter an end after a while and the game might be beautiful. We just want to enjoy and relax while we are playing a game. But this is no contest and we don't need to proof ourselves. It's but a game, not the olympic games. Most people are not hardcore players, are no lunatic nerds living in front of the PC...... but only want to relax and have fun after a long day of work. But the way this game is designed, all you ever get is frustration and your time gets stolen by forcing you to repeat all the game from beginning again and again as punishment for any tiny mistake. Just keep your game for yourself. We don't want frustration, we want to be happy and relaxed while playing.

Player is warned about pretty much nothing. Even the ghost I noticed often points in the wrong direction for your campfire and statues, companions, etc. have no explanation, no text nothing. Everything is one big surprise in this game. Seems intended.

This makes the game simple but it can also be annoying at times. Or the Christmas snow so I sometimes can not see little patches of grass to eat for my mount.

The small tutorial at the start is explanation enough for most.
The rest is you developing strategies.
Everything makes sense so far.
But how do you know the Winter is Eternal without ruining your ressources and losing? Why would you assume that after summer and fall just passed that winter would stay forever?
There is no advantage the player has from farming money and people. So why make winter infinite? (also, there is a way to still get a lot of money during the eternal winter)

We know that Winter is eternal by trying. Winter starts day 20 and day 100 winter is still lasting..... allready 4 times longer than all other seasons together. And Devs confirmed that winter is lasting for ever. This kind of sucks.

And how will you make money in the winter? Deer and rabbits don't respawn anymore. Farms are dead forever. Only the banker and his few coins of interest. Do you know of any other way making money apart from the interest? And appart from the few trees, who once they are gone never grow back? And since there is no grass anymore, even the unicorn gets useless, not giving any more money.

i dindnt know that even deer doesnt respawn.

Yes, no deer, no rabbit and no grass. No mount can eat anymore, making them slowly and the unicorn gets totally obsolet, since it doesn't give any more coins.

Well, as with many Steam games, development is ongoing for KNL, and the developers are still working on it and tweaking it and adding new content - not to mention listening to the community. Maybe they'll change winter, especially given the fact that 1) it remains a threat even if it isn't a permanent state, and 2) the greed provide the same gradually increasing difficulty curve/war of attrition, making eternal winter redundant in that respect. I'm hopeful for that as a change simply because the mechanics for replacing what eternal winter provides - the previously mentioned war of attrition - actually already exist in the game. Very little gameplay would actually need to be changed to implement winter being a periodic thing rather than a permanent thing.

I personally suspect, though, that if the developers make winter temporary, they might go with a proper and visible seasonal cycle - which would also provide the player with forewarning for when winter is coming, if there's a visible autumn period before it. That would be somewhat more significant as an update, and thus it might take awhile. I choose to hope it's something they'll implement eventually.

eternal winter is frustrating. you know why??? because winter follows you to the new islands. so even when you escape to the new islands, you begin the next game in winter already! that's STUPID, and i really don't understand how this made sense when they were testing this. it would be more fun if there was a way to reset the seasons, or if each of them lasted THE SAME TIME.

...uh, what? The season countdown resets once you hit the new island. (And each island has a different length of time before winter hits, with it taking longer and longer for winter to come the bigger the island is.) Are you mistaking the cosmetic winter from the holiday update as winter having followed you? Because the holiday update throws a couple days of 'fake' winter at you, even if you're very early on in a new land.

But winter is definitely not supposed to follow you, and that's not how the game mechanics work.

I saw the main post for this topic and commented there. Will do so here as you seem to share the same opinion that it's an absolute joke. Played the game for quite a while, played the first as well and I never knew that there is now a time limit per island. Eliminates the whole kingdom building side and now forces you off the island. Can't take your time or be casual which I did often. As I wrote in my other post I enjoyed playing it casually to build up a creation or giving myself little tasks such as how many people can I get or farmers etc. Essentially trying to get the most out of each feature as I discover them, like the hermit. What I hate most about this feature is once it's there it then stays. If you don't have coin for that boat on its arrival then say good bye to all that effort and time. If the Devs wanted to make it so players move on to discover more of the game, how about making the nights harder or the greed more of a challenge. Anything BESIDES AN ETERNAL DEADLOCK. I've shelved the game as a result, despite being as tempted as I am to try and fully go back to complete the christmas stuff before it goes. I refuse to play knowing that I can't fully enjoy stuff because at some point I will die a slow and pointless death when winter takes any and all form of income.
