Change citizen job?
My mind is blown... I can't find this question anywhere on google or steam, yet I am completely certain that this is THE most obvious question related to this game:

Can you change a citizen's job? I have the impression that you cannot, however, given how extremely inconvenient this is, I now have a much more disturbing questions... Why isn't this board flooded with endless posts asking about it?

Unless you spent all of your money buying hammers instead of bows & arrows there is no real reason to change thier job but if you are running low on workers with hammers, scythes, ect.... just hire more peasants.

As for the reason why the forums arn't flooded with this question? it is because the solution is super simple always buy more bows & arrows and when you think you have enough. Buy more bows & arrows (then somewhere in there buy other equipment but still keep on buying those bows & arrows!!!).

... There are plenty of cases in which getting more workers isn't an option, or when you dont need 10 wokers completely wasted doing nothing after your knights have cleared the portals... Not being able to reassign them is very obviously something many people should question.

You can't, unless they lose their tools. Or at least I don't know of a way. Just have to be careful about assignments. It'd be nice to change jobs or cancel assignments, but then the game would probably need more complicated inputs.

Your counter example was my original example of the only exception as to why you would need to change jobs....

Still my answer is to always by arrows and not get so many hammers next time.

Of course if you want to do a hodge podged way of changing classes then mark a tree near the portal to be chopped...... might have to get a few more hammers again but at least you won't have 10 usless ones.

EDIT: not sure what was going on with the quoting there but I fixed it.

-Always buying arrows and not so many hammers simply results in being completely screwed by not being able to build anything, make knights, operate new crossbow towers or catapults.
-Builders will not cut trees within range of an active portal.
-Having to find an effective way to intentionally let enemies hit the kind of worker you don't need anymore is absurd.
-Oh well. I'm kinda over the game now anyway. 4th island done.

thats not completely true. ive seen a farmer throwing away his scythe and start walking around as a non assigned citizen again.

but yeah its about planning and buying more bows than anything else

Playing this game once seems lik a waste of money to me or did you start a new save?
You won't be able to unlock everything, yet you know about many late game/advanced things about this game???
Either this is a troll sentence or you don't enjoy this game?
Are you 100% sure, that you have not played more than 4 islands?

And 2 years old again. \o/
In fact it's the first result in Google, so...
About input, having up arrow to drop item is so hard ?
It's stupid to have more bow because now I cannot build anything (peasant just dont respawn indefinitely...). So I am screwed... As archer cannot die/drop their bow once in tower...
MetaK Jul 2, 2022 @ 10:00am
and again 2 years later the same...
Its stupid to be unable to change jobs, now i have 1 kngith with 4 bows doing nothing 2 hammers doing nothing and y a lot of archers but i cant make them die, cause i have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fortress and i cant advance in the game, so just restart the save? wtf, suicide and begin again? WTF!!!!
this game... dropping... dont buy it!

Two more years, same issue. I bought too many bows, was drowning in coin, but could not get the knights.

Ah yes. 2 yearly check-in xD.
I can recommend Tekken 8 and Palworld. They don't have this issue haha.

There are cases in which it is possible to soft-lock yourself. Like, if you get to island 3, decide to rely on rabbit hunters, and then upgrade to 4 knights too fast, before you have excess archers or farmers, you end up with no source of income at all, but all the defenses to get you to day 18 or 20 while you stare at your empty coin bag. This isn't exactly a mistake, because you have to get knights. You just did it too soon, and now you have to wait for an hour for the greed to get strong enough to overwhelm you.

In that case, firing a knight to free up archers so that you can actually get income would just make the game flow easier.

But, well, the game is still fun, even if it has that annoying design flaw where, sometimes, the loss punishment is "you have to wait for the game to actually capitalize on your mistake."
