There is a old baker, who will upgrade your archer tower into a furnace to cook bread. Once the bread is cooked, it will attract new settler/units/slaves/guys from the camps for you. They will run to your base and eat the bread.
Finally, there is an old man, who will upgrade your archer tower to have one extra knight.
As for the bakery, can the bread attract the beggars to come no matter how far they are from the camp? Do they become citizens or not after they eat the bread?
You can even recruit them while they are on their way running to the bread, saving you time from having to run to wherever you built your bakery.
