What is a playable ping for multiplayer?
I've tried playing a number of multiplayer matches now with varying pings. My best was a ping of 70ms which seemed reasonably playable.

But most have been 150ms+ which is difficult at best. It's challenging to try to anticipate shots when the ball is basically materializing at the net already enroute.

One match I tried had a 200ms+ ping and I couldn't score a single point it was so rough.

So what's an ideal ping? <100ms? <50ms?

The big problem, at the moment at least, is when the ping fluctuate as the game try to sync for minimize problems. Around 100ms or less it's almost flawless. Around 200ms you could notice than sometime your shot seems go over your opponent, but actually he catched, so his hit start a bit later than it should: the ball trajectory anyway remains smooth, so it's not difficult to play. Around 300ms or more (a quite huge lag) it's very evident, still playable with a smooth ball, but very evident. From where I live (Europe) USA matches are around 200ms and Asia ones over 300ms.

When the ball isn't smooth and you see strange jumps, or simply the ball appears too late for you to reply, this is usually caused when latency go up and down, so the game syncing get mad. This seems in some way more evident in the last update, I don't know if something in the netcode is changed, I'm quite confident than is going to improve.

We didn't make a post about this, but just now we pushed a patch to everyone that tackles ball jumping to the net in multiplayer. And verified playing on 120 ms ping, it looked pretty playable.

That's like 3 patches in two days. Do you ever sleep? :P

(Seriously, kudos, though. I've noticed much improvement to the game so far!)

played a few mp games recently most of my games were below 100ms (within europe 40-70ms) , and all of them were playable neither person felt at a disadvantage. im in the uk but managed to play someone in the us fine at 80-115 ms , voice coms were bit delayed but gameplay was still solid.

i've played with a friend that lives at about 200km from me, we usually ping 30 ms each other, but ingame the ping was 55/60 that is good but sometimes i clearly see the latency.
we tried to search our ip on windows while playing but it looks there are no direct p2p connections, so i suppose there is a dedicated server somewhere ?
is it possible to host a match ? or better, would be great if i can install a dedicated one in a server i've rented in southern france where i ping 25 ms.

is that possible ?
