Crash on startup
Every time I launch, I crash on startup. Using an oculus, launching via steam

Tried reinstalling the game, EAC, Oculus, Steam VR, Steam itself. Any suggestions?

hi, could you describe to me what happens exactly? does it just close or does it come up with a message stating a crash? thanks!
Tatts Sep 7, 2018 @ 3:54am
Hey, it doesn't come up with any message at all. It never gets passed the SteamVR loading through headset, and on the desktop the program launches in a window, but only as a white box. There's no noise, and after a few seconds it closes.

hmm right, could you give me your output_log.txt in a way, maybe use google drive or something else to provide us that log.

this log is located in your appdata/locallow/downpourinteractive/onward folder.
with that log we'll be able to pinpoint your problems more easily.

thanks!

how exactly do you start the game? if you open the game through Oculus home while it's installed on steam it might not work.

try starting the game through OculusVR mode through steam.
whenever you launch the game. do you get a blue loading bar on your monitor? (like this one: http://prntscr.com/krq33q )

I have tried launching it both with SteamVR and OculusVR mode. The EAC bar does pop up and load to the end before the Onward window shows up. It then proceeds to close. Sometimes the process hangs, but it never finishes loading.

To note, the crash log looks different when I launch in OculusVR mode. Sorry if this ain't useful.

hmm, just to make sure, even though you reinstalled the game. can you try verifying your game files?
just to tick it off ;)
Tatts Sep 7, 2018 @ 4:53pm
Yeah, I've tried verifying. And it's coo, I know this is all pretty standard stuff. I just want to get playing again.

it's starting to sound like EAC is picking up some kind of software that it doesn't like.
try turning off your antivirus and other unnecesary programs to see if that works.
Tatts Sep 7, 2018 @ 7:53pm
I've turned off basically everything I can think to turn off. I don't have an AV, and the software I'm running is not much different to what I was running previously. I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning, but launching from the .exe I get all the way to the menu before crashing back to desktop.

So, updating windows fixed this. I don't know why and I don't know how exactly, but it must have made EAC happier. So anyone suffering from a similar bug, there you go. Thanks for all your help Mr Death

awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
I'll add it to the list haha.
