there should be instructions next to the marked location. walk towards it to read the instructions in the tutorial.
to insert the code. you'll have to stand next to the objective. there once you click code, a 7 digit code will appear. remember the code and go back one page and click "uplink" insert the 7 digit code there and press "send"

I see there are buttons on top of the tablet, but they don't appear to do anything.
I wonder if part of the problem was that when the game loaded up, I never saw the options page. When i loaded it up just now I saw the options for the first time and was able to crank up all of the graphics settings.
But does white text on a pale yellow background scream common sense to you?
