Rift S tracking problem with gunstock
Dear DEVs! :)

There is an "old" bug in the Oculus controllers firmware,

https://youtu.be/Vbken521WeQ

https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/77094/rift-s-touch-controller-positional-tracking-timeout-on-slow-movements-1-37-0-245188

Please send a report to Oculus, maybe the words of a development team are louder ... :)

i believe that this test was done pre 1.39 update which fix the tracking.

The problem is still with the 1.41 update... the 1.39 update improved the tracking when the controllers were close to the HMD. In the video, the cameras can see both controllers well, so the problem here is different.

If you look at the video and also see the linked forum, you can see that the problem starts when we hold the controller motionless or move it very slowly.

When the controllers are in your hand, that's not a problem, because our hands are always moving or shaking a bit. With gunstock, the controllers do not move or shaking, and this will make the tracking problem visible.

What I do as a rift s user is enable virtual stock in settings to combat this issue and the gun snaps in place so your non dominant hand aims the gun while the dominant hand doesn't get tracked so it's not being screwed over by the bug

If the tubing is chrome try covering it up with some tape. The reflection could be confusing the receiver.

The problem is visible in the video and in the attached forum. This is a known bug in firmware, but fixes are not a priority because it affects few players.

I tried to turn to the developers, maybe their word is worth more ... but as I see it, they are like Oculus.

Well to be fair, if it's a firmware bug, the Devs have no choice, their hands are tied by Oculus until they update the firmware with the bug fixed.

Oculus support say: Gunstock is not an Oculus game and we cannot guarantee how a non-Oculus game is going to work on our headsets. Since the tracking issue is only happening with Gunstock, I would recommend reaching out to the developer of that game to see if they have any suggestions.

:steambored:

never mind

Hi Guys! I just bought a ProTube VR Gunstock. First I thought the tracking gets jittery because of the magnets, but it looks like, there is still an issue because even if I have only one controller in the Gunstock, the controller freeze a little. Is this only with Rift S or also with the CV1?

This is an issue only for the Rift S and the Quest /Quest with link. We're in contact with Oculus regarding this issue and they're actively looking into it.

wasnt this an issue with oculus when you have 1 controller in front of the other it stops seeing it?
Reinhard Dec 10, 2019 @ 3:42am
No, this is different, sadly. It has nothing to do with occlusion with oculus did a really good job since the rift S was released.

I have an S and a gunstock and it has been working pretty good for me compared to how it was before they started rolling out the updates. it was unplayable at first.
