Sometimes it needs some time until the mind gets used to the movement system. At the very beginning I had also little motion sickness problems, especially if I was crouching with the thumb pad it feeled sometimes weíred and I got a bit sick. But after a while I had absolut 0 motion sickness problems, I can play Onward 8 hours straight without a single bad feeling and I know a lot of guys where it is the same, while I remember nobody that had big trouble with it at the same time.
Maybe it´s an option to try the new defend/attack mode together with your mates, there you are not forced to move so much and it´s probably easier to get comfortable with it. Also you can easily reduce the number of bots if someone wants to make a little break and play with the other guys without need of leaving the lobby for the guy doing the break. Worst thing is to keep playing for a longer period of time if you have motion sickness, it´s better to make a small break and then try it again. But since you are using VR over 2 years you know this probably already.
I can be wrong but maybe it´s in your case also a bit group psychology, if 2 guys complain about motion sickness the third guy focus on it and start to feel the same while the 4 guy had maybe already little problems and is feeling them now also stronger. Maybe you should try also a round or two alone against bots, only to get sure that it´s not like this. I experienced in some games a lot more motion sickness than in others with similar movement systems due to the fact that the game was not focusing me so strong on the game, so I focused more on the sickness and it went stronger.
Even if Dante would add other locomotion systems for private lobbys it would be sad that you couldn´t play with everyone else. Unless it´s really a group for motion sickness people at least some of you should be able to play the game without motion sickness after a while.
Seated strafing got me sick quick. While no reference model of a weapon in front of me got me feel weird so I stopped too.
What Im saying here is standing up, moving where your weapon is pointing and seeing weapon in your FOV and concentrating on enemies are things that help reduce motion sickness a lot.
