overall the biggest issue with any console port is trying to figure out the control scheme considering how much buttons the game necessitates in combat these days as not everyone is keen on playing full command inputs either
Everything they are doing with it, could have been invested in creating an updated mabinogi, but no, they are hitting dfo, because nobody who plays the sidescrolling arcade style game will entirely devote their time to a secondary successor. They tried it with maplestory. why do it again? Matter of fact why not just do it to Maplestory? Why reach their hand back into a company they separated from because they refused to support the game over their other games, like maplestory? They just don't like neople, nor dfo very much. That is all. So, gut the storyline for all its worth, paint a smile on it art, and call it happy fun play play time.
Don't get me wrong I am not upset, they are free to do what they want with it. I should have grunged out, not showered, spent all my extra money on the game. But I didn't, I spent money on it when I could, enjoyed it with a couple of friends, and a good few months of play time in the entirety of its existence. I stayed quiet mostly only vocalized my opinions rarely or asked a few questions, I grew up playing free pc games and I never really liked the super light stuff because it was either a guise for scams and racists, or racist scams, however you cut it. I have to look for content that fits my age and nature, and that's just how it is.
I just can't help but feel like its a missed opportunity for "retro" dfo to get fully placed on console. Even though in its current state, the overglorified events, overhyped classes, streamlined gameplay, and lack of content, and items to create a diverse set of builds and challenges, and even more so with the removal of armor specification its a shell of a game truly. Honestly, I will just have to see how it comes around, maybe in another 15 years we can have this discussion again. But I would like to see its original concepts come back and be the face of the design, they still make cutscenes, not sure how they don't get the support for a full series to get hype for a fully updated game, with time and care, from the ground up. The current direction just doesn't make sense to me.
Not to mention the new "Solo Singleplayer Experience" with the "God Of War" rage and dark souls or "soulslike", Its great honestly, the art is in the right spot. But to me thats it, it focuses on a single class, and guts out everything else, again in its not called dfo, or dungeon fighter, but The First Berserker set in the same universe but still, these don't hype the game up for original players it just makes it fit the design of newer games in a way that takes away from anything it once was, and also ever could have been. They could have taken direction from a game like "Dragon's Dogma" Instead, which is singleplay but could just as easily be multiplayer, and even fits that design, its not arcade action but at the very least it fits the original game design. Its just a game, i know, but still. I think the point of the art style is being missed all over the place. Where fun event stuff takes over the main course of the storyline and novelty items become the commonplace atmosphere, destroying the course of the core game design. That is why i think there is such a drastic difference in the direction the game has gone in. They are contrasted against each other in real time, and the one where people get to play together is the one that suffers.
