Playing with a fight stick
I was wondering how well this game could be played with a fightstick. Is a keyboard necessary or could I manage with a stick?

I was wondering the same when I started. I ultimately went with a keyboard for convenience, but if you want to use your fight stick you can make it work.

First you need to be able to bind your buttons to the keyboard, I believe Xpadder can do it for you. Since you only have 6(?) buttons you need to make good command inputs for you skills since you cannot use the keyboard's 12 macro buttons you have available.

You should bind z, x, c and space. You might also need a button for creature skill and another for health potion/consumable. That's already 6. Which means you only have z, x ,c and space to work with when doing your commands for the skills. C is generally used for jumping, down+C is backwards jump.

The keybinds I use when playing on a keyboard is this: http://i.imgur.com/jvrW8zE.jpg

As you can see I pretty much only use 3 keys for the majority of my skills. Definitely usable on a fight stick. And the commands I use are super easy to execute and chain. In fact I find this setup much easier than using the 12 macro buttons available.

You could, but it'll limit you from using your item hotkeys, skill hotkeys, and you'll be doing manual inputs quite a lot.

I use a RAP4 which has 9 face buttons(four face buttons, R1/R2/L1/L2, start) 5 buttons(R3/L3, share, turbo and home button, all can be mapped) and a PS4 controller touch screen(also mappable) for a total of 15. I don't know how I feel about taking my hands off the face buttons to use the side buttons but maybe it will work.

Your picture helped, maybe I'll be able to pull this off.

Heh...you're not kidding. I have a Hori RAP VX-SA for Xbox 360 myself. As I'm starting to get back into fighting games, I thought of dusting it off. So far, the only game I'm having trouble with using the stick (the game is the problem, not the stick itself) is Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. Two of the buttons are switched for some reason. The others I've played so far have the right layout. I even have Antimicro (an open-source controller to keyboard mapper program) set up with a profile for the DAPHNE laser-disc game emulator and the Don Bluth game collection on Steam (Dragon's Lair I & II and Space Ace).

it will work, if you dont remind remembering skill moves. the problem kicks in when you cant navigate the menus and other things.
