Wondering about the thief class
Just wondering, (havent played since 2011 and i was 9 back then) how effective is the thief and its subclasses compared to some of the other dps classes? (say, the gunner, slayer, etc) cuz i wanna make sure im getting something outta the one class that has the "extreme" difficulty.

are you asking for pve or pvp ?? If strictly pve, unless your aim is the very very end stuff (and even then) , you can really pick whatever you want and have fun with it!

Kunoichi is like a high mobility mage type character, with the ability to cast a new skill in the middle of another. High burst damage because of this, but also cna make the game laggy as hell. Even break some other people's game. And with the ability to have a clone mimmick any spells she casts,, and to cast her own spells while the mimmick casts spells, it's like a never ending onslaught of ninjitsu. Which is of course awesome. My favorite of the thief classes.

SHadow Dancer is an interesting class. Probably the only class in the game that relies heavily on positioning. It's a crit based class that maximizes damage on back attacks. It's a melee class too. The only real comparable class i can think of for it is Rogue. Some call it a weaker Rogue, which may be true. I've never played rogue unfortunately. That said, Shadow Dancer still does some impressive damage, and sports probably the best natural crit rate in the game without the use of her buffs. I got like a base 60% crit rate, and with the SD buffs i get to like 90-100% crit rate. SD also has Assassinate, probably one of the highest damage skills in the game if performed properly. 37863% damage on max level on a rear attack not including crit or TP. If you like positioning for maximum output, and seeing it come out in a gloriously bloody display SD is fun

Necromancer is relatively the same. Don't think a lot of people play Necro. Not my cup of tea either. Still has some amazing usage, Nicholas has become much more reliable to use. Dark Ritual can still be used with the right gear to do some impressive damage output, however there's also a skill that boosts the damage of Vallacre as well while Dark Ritual is up. Well overall skills just got buffed for Necro. I dont think Necro's bad but it's not really my cup of tea.

Like i said earlier, I have never made a rogue. can't help you there. You're on your own, sorry. The most I can offer is SD but more emphasis on burst aerial combos instead of burst crit grabs.

Because you have to be behind the enemy to do max damage as a SD you lose DPS over time in the long run, along with the other cons of being a SD (Like not being able to hit the back of an enemy). Because Rogue doesn't have to position itself behind enemies it can string combos together much more quickly and still do their max damage. And for SD, their attacks do great burst but their skills have a cooldown.

Also consider the fact that Shadow Dancer is mostly a single target class. They do have a skill that allows them to multi target with some skills which is good, and some skills automatically hit more than one target, but the core skills are solely for one target. And if you miss, or don't hit the target in the back then you'll be crying.

One more thing, because some attack animations have to complete it can eat up time, along with the positioning you need to do.

Think of it like this: Shadow Dancer is about dealing as much damage in a single hit. Rogue is about dealing as many hits as possible in a constant stream of damage

This might help illustrate the point a bit more

I can talk about Rogue.

Rogue is an very intensive melee combo character who has a lot of skills to choose from. The main gimmick behind her is Hit End, where you get a counter per actions like cancelling skills into another or hitting monsters with a certain skill. When you press Z after doing a skill, you can spend all your counters to do an extension attack that increases per amount of counters you have.

The problem was that this system was a chain until the 2nd awakenings because the counters would decrease too fast. But they fixed it by removing the removal of Hit end counter decrease entirely. (Look at the Rogue passive Swift)

Her 1st awakening is a buff that has a finisher. The buff itself is actually pretty good, increasing attack range, normal attack hits and increasing all speeds. Each counter you get also increases her speed/crit damage. Her 2nd awakening also comes with a buff that lets you free-cancel skills you couldn't cancel before.

She's also one of the more air-intensive characters. In PvP, knowing how Shining Cut works is a must.

She has 2 weapon types: Daggers and Twin Blades. Both are honestly on par with each other considering what build you take.

Her best "free" set is ironically Force: Hit End chronicle pieces, as much as it would sound like some chron set. Hit End gets boosted to ridiculous levels with the equips.

ahhhh ok. I was just wondering if I could hear your opinion on something. I know its like comparing apples and oranges, but somebody on this thread mentioned that the shadow dancer is kind of a weaker rogue. Is that true? if so, I might wanna switch classes XD
