Intrude
8-Bit Killer
Can anyone comment on what the relationship is between this game and Loco Malito's 8-Bit Killer?

I don't think there's any relation at all. Both games are pretty good and similar, probably because of what inspired both of the games.

I doubt there's any relation. 8bitkiller seems more inspired by games like Contra wheras this feels way more like Wolfenstein 3D

I'm also certain the game engines are different since this game was made in Gamemaker

Contra? 8-Bit Killer is an FPS just like this. I've just been curious because certain things look extremely similar.

The connection is the fact they are all Raycaster games. It's an old 2.5D FPS engine for C++ that turns 2D map enivronment and sprites into a 3D-ish looking shooter game. (ed)

Intrude however, seems to be a highly polished version compared to yer basic raycaster game. It has more video modes, better gameplay handling, premium sound and the level editor is easier to use than the everage raycaster software that I used to create the Simple Doom demo.

I could tell it was a raycaster. Although the nerd debate over whether the Doom engine is one still doesn't seem to be over.

My concern was more that the games seem to have very similar elements, particularly the way hostiles sometimes duck behind corners briefly before charging. I've been enjoying Intrude, so whatever.

It's actually not ray cast, its full 3d. And both games were made in gamemaker, just different versions. I actually have an engine that works almost 1:1 with both of these games. Its easy to produce and yeilds fun results. Mine is significantly more advanced though. I have splitscreen and online support and all that jazz.

There is a 3rd one in this style made by vlambleer, also done in gamemaker
