Stuck on Day 6 in Police Department Fix

Hey,

with the dosbox configuration that this game comes with you will get stuck in a couple of places in the game due to speed bugs that some sierra games suffer from.

But I can simply share my fix as well.. in the installed folder of the game:

SteamApps/common/Gabriel Knight/GK1/DOSBOX there is a dosboxGK.conf file and if you edit it in notepad and find the line cycles=max you should change that to a limited number like cycles=10000 instead to fix the problem. I tried setting it to auto and it still had the same issue. Also setting it to something lower than 10000 was not necessary and it made the game slower than it needs to be.

I know this is a very late reply, but while, setting the cycle number to 10000 did solve the issue for me, it made the game painfully slow. Only after I set the cycle number to 18000 did the game start running smoothly again.

I realize I’m reviving a three-year-old thread, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the fix here! I’m playing GK for the first time and absolutely loving it, but I was worried my game has come to a screeching halt with this bug. But this thread has just the answer I needed! (And very simple too)

Same. EXCEPT I STARTED PLAYING ON JUNE 18 WITHOUT KNOWING IT WAS SIGNIFICANT.

Thanks a lot! Even tho one would think that people that put the DosBox conversion on Steam should adjust it so the player does not need to fiddle with the game. It pisses me off a bit.
