What kind of minigames do you like in Visual Novels?
Just out of curiosity, I keep hearing people wanting to have minigames in their VNs.

The one I remember the most is Little Buster's baseball game and launching Rin to the heavens beyond. There is also an otomate game that I remember seeing with shooting butterflies? But I don't think I played many VNs with that much minigames. So I'm really curious to what everyone else seems to have played!

I think Simulation style stuff like Gaokao.100.days doesn't count haha.

Symphonic Rain had a mini-game where you had to play music by hitting the right keys at the right time, like a rhythm game. I thought that was pretty fun.

I have seen some VN on Steam (Heart and Seoul, True Lover Knot) with a simple match-3 minigame and one (Sixtieth Kilometer) with some QTE.

Va-11 Hall-A's bartending minigame is super well implemented into the story and flow of that VN

I really liked Ace Attorney's "Spot the clue" on the item minigame.

Match 3 is always good, simple yet fun. Being able to make HoniePop style games would be awesome.

I'd love to have something like the photography system from SoniComi with a bit of added extra - not sure how I'd manage something like that, but want to try and find a way. I agree with the Match 3 idea though :)

Japanese style rock-paper-scissors that has the initial rock-paper-scissors and then the direction point phase.

Not sure it counts as a minigame but I like character creating games, I just LOVE making up my own characters to mess around with

I would love a minigame where you can cook something, like valentines chocolate or a simple dish. Following some steps in the right order or use incidence a certain person likes to trigger events or just push up some friendship! This would be awesome!

Hunie pop style
Strategy card game
Alchemy
Costume Dress Up
Visable affection meters
Stuff like that really, it doesnt have to be too involved

i think it should be have gal-game with 4 choices style in Boku wa Tomodachi Sukunai

Hunie pop style ~ Not really a VN

Strategy card game ~ Not a VN

Alchemy ~ If the cooking thing above is implemented, pretty much the same thing, and probably eventable.

Costume Dress Up ~ Should be able to be evented already, I would think.

Visable affection meters ~ I would think that would already be able to be evented.

I understand what you meant in the forums about how many don't know what a proper VN is, Archeia. Not that some of these couldn't be some nice interactions, beyond just reading text. Dating sims really are polluting the genre, (not that they aren't enjoyable in and of themselves.)

@Deilin
"Dating sims really are polluting the genre"
??? Uhh....
I'm not sure I understand you correctly but let me try... You hate interactive visual novels I assume then? I mean I love interactive games and the more interactive it is the more into it I am, dating sims aren't really polluting anything visual novel related. If anything I prefer visual novels to be more then just "Click enter for next dialogue" Everyone has a different idea of what a good visual novel is though, just that some people prefer to actually be doing things in them.

No. they have their place, and I own quite a few, some have gone to extreames that the more traditional VNs take a hit and are under-appreciated. I enjoy Fruit of Grisaia, but it's a lot of reading even with the completely voiced dialogue, but I also loved the anime which it fallows closely.

Then you get people trying to call Honey Pop a VN, which it really isn't, and people try to call Analogue a VN. Both seem more puzzle to me then a VN.

Select you story (multi-ending) dialogue games are fun too.

Yeah Deilin. That's exactly the problem. People think VNs are Point and Click Adventure or a dating sim and most minigame discussions don't even come from VNs;;;
