Visual Novel Maker

Visual Novel Maker allow me to protect my art assets??
I'm a professional illustrator and wanted to know if the software will compile resources within an executable?

I'm sure it does. Otherwise it would make no sense.

Keep in mind that anything can be hacked.
Or a person can just take screen shots and use Gimp to rip the sprites.

You can download the visual novel SC2VN on Steam (I think it was made with Ren'Py). I noticed you can go into the games directory and sift through it. You have access to all assets. I was asking the same question in TyranoBuilder's forum and it packs the resources into a .pak file.

I tried the RPG Maker Demo and noticed when you compile the game it gave users access to EVERYTHING! Unlike Fusion 2.5 which complies everything into an .exe!

When it was launched it did to that, but now it doesnt. The demo is prob from launch.

It's pointless to try to encrypt Ren'Py games. There's a online program that hacks Ren'Py games easily. RPG Maker games can be encrypted, but I have heard those are easy to hack as well. This is why some devs put ton of DRM in their games. Steam isn't enough in some cases, depending on the type of game.

Generally, encryption is meant to stop the 'average joe' from just going into the folder and copypasting whatever they want out of it. If someone is determined enough to break encryption, they will eventually. At least a basic level to stop the 'average joes' is enough for most cases, tbh.

Does this mean that players cannot take screenshots?

There is something on the internet that even if you take a screen shot it might input a water mark. I'm not sure how easy that would be to implement though. Taking screen shots is still a very lengthy and difficult method. (ie. editing out the backgrounds or editing in the backgrounds.)
