THANKS, that is the fix.
I went to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(Steam ID Number)\495140\remote"
and found two files
"STORM.S" created at 8:00 PM and "STORM.S.stmp" created at 10:00 PM
so I deleted the one created at 8:00 PM then copied "STORM.S.stmp" and
renamed "STORM.S-copy.stmp" to "STORM.S"
after I restarted the game all my saved data was back!
you saved my 4h progress, thank you!!
So one of the things which can be done is of course to take the more recent .stmp file, delete STORM.s, rename STORM.S.stmp to STORM.S, to be able to delete the first, NSUNS1.exe needs to have been terminated, though.
However, I believe that if you delete the correct instance of NSUNS1.exe in task manager, you should then be able to save from within the game properly again, too.
These are mostly just hypotheses and not properly tested, but these are the conclusions my observations have gotten me to.
