Cheat code not working

So I already beat the game with both characters in Mega Man 9 but it says that in order to unlock Fake Man stage I need to complete 8 more challenges. I haven't been able to pull that off so I tried using the cheat code and it doesn't seem to work. I have to enter it on Mega Man 9's title screen correct? I hit up, down, left, right, left, right, down, up, up, down and nothing happened. Any suggestions? Is there another way to play Fake Man stage?

(edit) Seems the code has to be input quickly. My keyboard and D-pad would not cut it, I had to use a thumbstick/analog-stick.

Yeah... I noticed this myself; you'll find him in challanges instead of the game itself, not too much of a fan of dividing the game... just to go to the game.
