Am I the only one here who hates Mega Man 9
Seriousley this game is waaayyy too hard, like Double Dragon 4 it confuses old school diffcutly with constantley ramming ones head into the ground. The return to 8-bit was nice but getting rid of all advancments in Mega Man gameplay over the 20 years prior just makes this one a Mega Disapointment.

It wasen't "hard" has much has it was frustrating. Bad controls and wayyyy too many enemies on screen. It's easy enough has Billy or Jimmy because of a continue cheat but try getting past it with Williams or any charecter that dosen't let you continue, it's busted.

Ultimately, I think I had more hair-pulling "I want to quit" moments with Mega Man & Bass (while playing as Mega Man; it's a significantly easier game as Bass). The robot masters are very tough to beat without the appropriate weapons, and sometimes even with the appropriate weapons. (Burner Man comes to mind.) Then you've got King's Castle, the second stage of which has five boss fights in it, one of which you can't technically beat and merely have to survive. It's incredibly arduous. And remember: there's no E-tanks in that game, either.

I'm not saying that MM9 is easy, but it does definitely get easier if you experiment with master weapons and use them liberally during stages; some of them are incredibly powerful.
True Mega Man and Bass did have a lot of frustrating moments in it. I remember during the last stage just having too stop and put down the game for a few moments because while there wasen't an e tank there was an ability to heal if you stand still for a long period of time.

You'd have to be a total pro to beat MM&B as Mega Man without exploiting some of the shop items. I could never make it without using the "stand still to recover" item or Beat's shield.

I would say the most difficult stages in MM9 is Plug Man and maybe Hornet Man's stages. Jewel man isn't that bad once you understand how the swings work. The fortress stages are also really not too hard once you get the hang of them and take your time. The Wily boss is a cake walk if you kow his weaknesses and you saved energy tanks and a half damage item. Still above all I would say MM9 is one of the most difficult Mega Mans if not the most difficult. Mega Man 2 is a bit on the easy side especially if you pick easy mode. So to say they were trying to go back to that difficulty is a little off.

Plug Man's stage is mostly only hard because of its tricky disappearing blocks section, but it learned everything it knows from watching Heat Man's stage in Mega Man 2, which was even more brazenly unfair. ;p

I'd agree that 9's levels are trickier overall than 2's, barring Heat Man's fakeout blocks and Quick man's trademark Bastard Beams. but I feel like 9's bosses are cake in general compared to some of what MM2 threw your way, such as the turret boss you literally can't defeat without a certain amount of Crash Bomb or the dragon that tends to knock you off a ledge in a single hit.

I've beaten MM2 so many times it is hard to remember how difficult that turret boss was the first few times and yes it was a pain until you figured it out. Disappearing blocks on Heatman's stage can be avoided with item2 provided you followed an order that allowed you to get it first. On the long path of blocks there only three blocks that act differently than the others and are the only ones you need to remember. Every other block can be waited for before jumping on. I find many people who complained about it never actually gave item2 a try or adamantly followed an order that didn't allow them to come prepared with it.

I hate 9, and it's entirely because of Plug Mans stage.

♥♥♥♥ reappearing blocks.

Seriously though. Their is a reason that the MM9/Protoman is the lowest gained completion achievement. Few people want to go through 9's stage gimmick bullshittery twice.

9 is best played in Super Hero Mode.

9 really isn't that bad if you've played the classic games; the challenge is fine, you just can't expect the flawlessly clear the game on your first try. Some sections in MM1 are far more infuriating to the point where I will never, ever play that game again after doing it one last time for completion in collection 1. Also honorable mention to Wily Stage 1 in MM8. The dev who made that level deserves to be publicly beaten.
Jump Jump
Slide Slide
Then beat annoying has hell boss.

In a funny coincidence, Plug Man's stage is the best place to farm for equipment when playing as Proto Man, since it contains two 1-ups and an E-tank. I played through that stage about 8 or 9 times to ensure I was totally stocked-up for the castle stages, and the block patterns got pretty simple after that many attempts.

MM9's difficulty felt just about right for me, can't breeze through it like you can for many games. In fact, going back to it after playing other entries in the series and other platformers in general, lots of the stages I used to grind my teeth over seemed much, much easier than I'd anticipated.

Originally the only thing I didn't finish was one or two of the very final stages, so I can't speak for the tail end of the game, but it certainly stacked up well with other titles, if nothing else. And I really enjoyed the music. (just not with this particular re-release specifically)

After playing the entirety of mm legacy collection 1, I think mm9 is amazing, mostly because of the absence of the frame rate slowdown effect that plagued the first 6 games. No more timing differences making you miss jumps or causing the character to not jump at all!! Absolutely fantastic. :praisesun:

I eventually got through that part, but now it's the third flying platform section on Splashwomans stage that's screwing me.

This section is basically either cake or infuriating depending on your screen. It was easy in 2008 on an older-style TV, but trying to play it on anything with the slightest amount of latency really sends the whole thing to hell.

I'm not seeing a problem on the PC, though...

I hate that I even mention that part in my video review. I know you can buy parts that let you survive on spikes but come on, that's freaking ridclous.

I like that part in Splash Woman's stage. It's clever.
Andrew Aug 23, 2017 @ 7:40am
I had a lot of problems with that part the first time I played but when I played it again for the first time in years I got through it on two tries. Now I can consistently do it every time and it feels so simple. Again, I think a lot of this game's difficulty is in the mind.
