MegaMan 7 - 2 player mode

In the original there was an unluckable 2 player mode where one player played MegaMan and the othere Bass in a single room where both players fought each othere.
I belive you have to finish the game with all the upgrades to unluck it.
Anybody that can comfirm this is still in the game?

It's a password and a button combination, which you can input and get to the character select, but I don't know if two controllers will be recognized by this version of the game.
