Type VIIB TDC
I suggest getting to upgrade the VIIB's C/37 TDC to the S3.

Why though? The S3 is the default TDC on the VIIC and the VIIC/41. There wouldn't be much of a point to upgrade your boat any further if you'd already have it on the VIIB.

The VIIB is the first Uboat I used in any Uboat sim, I've grown particular of it. And in-game it's the only one with netcutter, as wiser heads deemed no netcutters for VIIC's.
IMO it looks cooler, personal preference (and I'm not here to dictate yours).

It's reasonable to assume it must have been done IRL, though wouldn't have been done commonly because a lot of the VIIA's & B's would have been unserviceable after years in combat, but those that did would have certainly reaped rewards of improvements to the type.

We can put in christmas trees, so why not improvements to the primary weapons system?
Purely technically speaking, it's not a major mechanical rework, it's 3-5 cables, undo a couple of bolts and change the TDC, and voila, now the same Uboat, as a torpedo delivery system, has become twice as capable.
FAR preferable to something like an armored conning tower for example.

And changing the boat means more time spent outfitting and less time spent in action. Might as well stick with the VIIB (until approx 1941-2) until it's inferior range & limited series of modifications means it's no longer feasible, then go with VIIC.

If you could just do everything on any boat there would be no need to ever upgrade to the VIIC or beyond.

The range isn't really increased to make a difference (you'll need milk cows at some point anyway) and the additional diving depth isn't necessary. Everything else is just stuff you can research and install on your boat.

If at all it would be nice to start with the C/37 on every boat with the option to upgrade later. I'd much prefer that as it would spare me additional clicks to deactivate the AoB more every time.

Yeah the S3 didn't come out until 1941, and it also had different iterations, for reference compare U505's TDC to U995's, vertical vs horizontal orientation.
The S3 received multiple upgrades/changes, notably the red light when hit angle is past 90 degrees, essentially it got bolted to the panel.

As you so aptly pointed out, even earlier VIIC's prior to 1941 would have been using the C37, then upgraded. So I'm actually in favor of that too.

I operate in shallow waters but that'll soon change, so I'm not particularly looking to finish the war in a VIIB, the extra range and diving capabilities will be most welcome.
Just want to momentarily up the B's game up to C'ish with a modification that remaining servicable boats of her type probably received IRL.

Of course like any mod it would have to be acquired at cost via HQ.
Currently just not seeing any issue with my original feedback/request in any way.

Not that credible sources are needed for common trivia on my part, plus I never asked you for them either, but as I always say, tides change all the time.
So in case you get curious, I think tvre's article 'modifications and versions of the type tvhre s3 calculator' should suffice.
