la rochelle start is historically inaccurate?

my understanding is that they didn't start using it as a sub pen until october 1941, but the start is in july 1940? shouldn't you start in st nazaire in like autumn 1940? or is this just another like das boot reference in the game where they're being inaccurate on purpose.

Don't know but, they didn't even start building La Rochelle until April 1941 so there was nothing there at all in 1940 other than the port itself so it is definitely inaccurate.

I decided to pull straight in the submarine pen to see what would happen.
The game just turned the boat in the right direction, after docking.

Germany invaded France in May 1940, and had pretty much wiped the floor with the French in a month. I seem to recall that boats already at sea were directed to replenish at the captured French ports very early on, so July-August sounds reasonable for UBoats to start using La Rochelle etc. Of course, there would be no concrete pens or possibly no torpedos for a few weeks, but food and fuel would have been available.

Same with Kiel. Building of the Kilian Bunker only started '41 and ended' 43, yet in game it's already good to use from the start and also they put it at a completely wrong place. 🫣
From the historical perspective there's quite a few things obviously "meh" unfortunately.

They did use Lorient and St Nazaire early one as u-boat base and Brest as navy base (later also as u-boat base), but La rochelle wasnt used befor oct '41
