I was wondering about this exact thing. Would be nice if the research descriptions would just say what it actually does at the end instead of just the fluff piece about why the improvement is needed.

Also note you can't actually upgrade the toilets on the IIA/IID.
It doesn't actually say this anywhere.

Below a depth of 100m or so, can you imagine staying down there for 12 hours and 50 men had to take a dump in a toilet that didn't work? This actually happened in the early versions of the type VII. What a morale killer...lol
