It's a single player game..you make your own rules.
There is no point in increasing the difficulty to the point of having to cheat.. but again, you r game.. do what you want.
Or starting directly with the VIIB
Oh then there's no way to unlock Type VIIC, thanks
I was adaptating during tonnage war, that would be failure point.
difficulty is fine, currently.
Most likely have to restart.
Since the Tonnage war doesn't even last that long into 1940 i've even stopped from going on "vacation" with the crew, until that one is done.
I've used to do 21days vacation every other mission.. not anymore.
Does Type VIIC is way better then Type VIIB?
I'm on 1941 July now and on Type VIIB, Is it worth starting over?
Way better is relative to what you wanna do .. i'd check what blueprints are potentially available for you if you complete stages for the missions within your time frame.
I think the main difference is the new TDC what can track AOB ? don't quote me on that one.
In few aspects:
It's small upgrade like going from IIA to IID
Not sure if you need to VIIC to unlock VIIC/43 tho...
I often went to hunt for additional ships on UK's east coast(between London and Edinburgh) after missions. I usually returned to port if I was running on fuel or/and torpedoes.
Additionally, I hunt for ships even during non patrol missions like delivering agents because progress counts outside of patrols as long as you meet the requirements, if there are any(Happy time tiles).
Ircc I finished it around december of 1939 or january of 1940.
just remember to use electric engines on surface often while using first two types of subs for conserving fuel.
Also inspect netural ships cuz they're fairly often valid targets if you find out they're swimmingg under false flag.
I recommend getting navigator skill asap cuz merchant skill check rarely prove's they're lying(for me not even once and I'm in 1941 atm) while navigator's proves neutral ships are valid targets 80% of the time.

I guess that'll be it then. I never return home with fish in the barrel, s'long as i have food and fuel i just go my own way until I'm out of torps. Seems like a waste to return back with unfired ordinance if you don't need to.
I'm on 3rd October 1939 currently and i expect to finish the Tonnage War this patrol, so it can be done if you don't do the bare minimum and just stay out :).
Sounds like you regularly kill more than 80k tonnage which is .. uncommon. or not really possible?
Especially with 3-4k ships.
You would have to kill more than 7x 11k tankers + 1x random 4k
Even if you use explosives.. you only get 1 per run , and you don't have the ENgi trait yet to scuttle them.
The best i've ever got with the dingy was 26k
Very curious on how you get 80k+
Got video or some screenshots?
You can see my tonnage, you can see I'm on Patrol 2, you can see the current dates.
Sank 15 ships on Patrol 1, ships 12 13 and 14 were large tankers in a convoy at the mouth of the Port of London.
It's a singleplayer game.. you can play as you like.
But there is a huge difference between the virtually unlimited range VIIB with 16 torps + deck gun + AA gun ?
and the dingy with 5 with zero range.
You should probably specify where your gameplay lands since the settings can vary wildly.
This is the same as starting on easy enemies then complain the AI is bad. ..
