IX or XXI?
Would you rather be patrolling down in South Africa or be speeding underwater at 17 knots?

Type IX all the way. The XXI was a garage queen that barely saw combat. I want to patrol the oceans in a u-boat that was actually apart of history.

The Type IX is what I'm really holding out for if they start adding more subs.

Why not both?

Twenty Two Torpedoes would come in handy, along with the 7 kn submerged speed.

I like the idea of the type XXI but I'm nervous about how it would be implemented.

If you want to be realistic about it, then player would only be able to use the Type XXI for six months between the time they entered service to the day Germany surrenders.

But if you let the player acquire a type XXI before the historically correct period similar to how you can research hydrophones or other advanced tech before it was historically available such as before 1944? Then it kind of becomes a wunderwaffe.

Not to the mention the biggest hurdle is just how very little is actually known about the type XXI. Very little documentation survived WWII, let alone the cold war.

The only XXI to really survive the war was so heavily retrofitted that it's difficult for those of us in the private sector to learn what she was like in her original condition when she was launched from the shipyards. Someone please tell me I'm wrong.

Well, the Type XXI was a part of history. :steamhappy:
I d'ont now what Type XXI (Serienumber), but it has observed for a long time a heavely armed convoy lately in the war.
And another Type XXI was hundet from destroyers, but the destroyers could never get to the submarine.

Walk, crawl, run.

I like what they've done with the game so far with a single boat type. Still lots of issues to work out. If they do go the route of adding more classes of U-boat, id like to see the IX implemented long before the XXI or XXIII.

It would also flesh out a lot of the long range missions that we're doing in VIIC's at the moment.

IX, hands down.

IX, at least you could play it for a while...

Type IX to do Operation Drumbeat - I am halfway through the book. Amazing.

If the devs added an option to the Realism & Difficulties page that let the player cut off the ability to research technology or new u-boats before they were historically available then that would make both crowds happy I think.

That way players could choose whether or not they want to get into a XXI before it was historically available.

My Vote.
Finish this Game first , come out with an Addon ( DLC) with the Type IX, with full animations of loading the outside storage tubes.

Another question to ask would be how good were those boats really? Technological advancements aside, you're talking about a boat made late in the war when Germany was at a critical stage for supplies and manufacturing. They had to cut many corners getting materials into production. Raw material shortages meant late war U-boats were often made with different materials then what would be standard for construction (Tags made of tin when they'd normally be brass) So while the Type XXI was a remarkable vessel, it had too short a time in the war to really test out what it could handle.

Type IX for me. It doesn't have that wunderwaffe cool factor of XXI but it was a very successful design. And in game it brings extra challenge of being bigger and slower to dive.

the IX is a gas Hog and is easily detected by HK's
and the more correct term to call the IX was Crusier submersible

steam needs a spell check

the XXI was inteded to be used with sonar technology only ,
