Why are T2's free but T1's cost?

The T2's are electric and therefore newer I would have thought. But they cost 0 and the steam ones cost 300. What's up widdat?

The T2 was easier to produce. It also was the standard torpedo of the Kriegsmarine.

What Jager said but also because the devs don't want playesr to "soft lock" themselves out of being able to continue playing if they're broke. This way no matter how poor you are you can still buy basic equipment and food.

Also, doesn't steam produce bubbles that can be sighted? What's the advantage w/ steam?

Range and adjustable speed. The T1 has at the lowest speed setting of over 10km, very useful for FA/LUT.

It's true the G7a is based on technology from WW1 but the G7a steam torpedo and G7e were actually developed in parallel during the Weimar period in secret under the treaty of Versailles.

Pay attention to the detonator as well...IIRC the 'free' torpedoes have the pi1 impact pistol and no pattern program. Torps with patterns or with more advanced pistols cost money. The better pistols allow for greater impact angles without failing to detonate, more reliable depth keeping and magnetic detonators, etc... The basic model ones work, and they're free, but the ones that cost money will work in some situations where the basic ones wont.
