How to upgrade your boat

Hi I am now in Jan 41, yet I cannot upgrade my IID to a VIIB. I have no blue credits to do so, even though I am sinking and completing missions. any advice how I can upgrade please?

There are 2 blueprints in the mediterranian that are open till 1945. Did you get all the blueprints in the North Atlantic?

2 missions give you blueprints. Tbe initial tonnage war and then the Atlantic. It leaves you stuck in a type 2 unrealistically long. But you can do it through these two. Sadly it won't always give you the option of the Atlantic missions. So you may need to ask the command for more options by spending a point.

For future '39 campaigns I'd suggest taking one of the VIIb boats and then downgrading to the IIA or IID depending on preference. This lets you run the II only as long as you want, only requiring unlocking one blueprint to then upgrade to a VIIb or c depending on time frame.

You can get one in Atlantic operations stage 3 by 1940

The thing is, not just any mission or campaign stage gives you a blueprint, but only certain ones. You can check which by looking at the rewards of them.
Here is a list someone else put together showing campaign name and stage number that should give a blueprint for completion:
