I guess it would cause x2 longer reaction time and block all other work on torpedoes until the swapping is complete
(3 mines in tubes, 1 more mine and 1 turop in stores)
Not really, you should have learned in school in history class that WW2 started on September 1. '39 and that UK and France declared war on Germany on September 3.
BDU sent me msg that I can attack Brits now, but with france it's just in self defence. I don't know exact historical dates when who joined (and when did politically, when army, when navy - there are special rules for ships as we see)
That said I can't even remember the last time I saw a French flagged ship.
There werent seperate dates of start of the war for different branches, from September 3. all britisch and french ships are fair game.
That the German invasion of France started in May '40 doesnt change the fact that they were at war since September '39
Well, wrongo.
Army invaded Poland on 1st September 1939.
BDU tells me to NOT attack UK then, only later it updates it, an on 3rd it says France ENTERED the war on sea, but I am NOT allowed to attack their cargo.
This also applies to neutrals you're allowed to sink them if they with a British convoy in 1939.
But essentially you're not allowed to engage the french till the invasion of France.
U-boat war diaries and B.d.U.'s war log suggest otherwise.
Supreme Command of the Navy made the following to F.O. U/B and Atlantic boats: "France considers herself at war with Germany from 1700. Boats are to take no hostile action against merchant ships for the present, except in self defense."
Naval War Staff made the following radio message T.O.O. 1748: "The situation with France is still not clear. No hostile action is to be taken against French units, including merchant ships, except in self defense. Merchant ships identified as French are not to be stopped. Avoid incidents with France at all costs."
In radio message 0604 Naval War Staff gave the following instructions in regard to French ships: "Enemy convoys may be attacked North of the latitude of Brest even if they are escorted by French or French and English forces. U-boats are not to take action against passenger ships even if under escort."
In Most Secret 8027 Naval War Staff gives the following ruling: French ships are to be treated in the same way as English ships. For passenger ships, orders as hitherto issued remain in force. Merchant ships which use their radio when stopped are either to be brought in or sunk. Mines may be laid on the French coast. Boats received orders accordingly in radio message 1641.
So my guess is somewhere between 10th and 24th of September.
