One of my favorite parts of UBOAT is the campaign/career structure. The campaigns within the campaign, the various objectives and special missions. I think the Pacific War lends itself even more perfectly to this cool setup than the Atlantic War does, with the various landings, and phases, the retreat, island hopping, inserting coast watchers, ammo resupply for Corregidor, and so on down the line. Or at least as well, at minimum.
It's so perfect in concept, combined with UBOAT, that it is hard to think of it NOT happening.
Keep buying the game and DLC, and tell your friends. If it's profitable, it will come (I guess)
The imperial navy of Japan for example had type IX submarines (U-511 as Ro-500, U-1224 as Ro-501, U-181 as I-501, U-862 as I-502, and U-195 as I-506).
So for me it is clear, In case of highly developed new scenario, we could be a japanese skipper or a german Uboat of the Gruppe Monsun that operated in the Pacific and Indian Ocean.
I second this
I really liked to play SH 4 with the TMO and RSRD mods, without those it was really bad. If there ever will be a second part or DLC, I would mostly like a WW 1 campaign, because to my knowledge something like this was not done bevor and it is extremly interessting. German WW 1 subs sank more ships and tonnage than their WW 2 counterparts did.
A US Fleetboat game/campaign could be nice, but I think it does not have the potential and good gameplay feeling of a Uboat campaign:
- US Pacific campaigns will get way less challenging and boring as time progresses. This is because of the changing of the overall war situation, Japanese ASW techs, resources and commitment to the whole sub threat lacking extremly behind compared to the Allies in the Atlantic. Basicly US skippers ran mostly out of targets from mid/late 44 on.
- extremly long distances to travel - where there any US skippers with more than five patrols as the skipper?
- People complaining about duds in this game as well as in any other naval games, imagine how a realistic performance of the Mark 14 torpedo prior to mid/late 43 feels... yes there are some workarouds but still...
- From a gameplay perspective the Uboats feel better/more rewarding than fleetboats, despite the later having some aspects where they are superior, like speed, range and loadout. But the ability to dive deeper is just a very rewarding thing for a player. Imagine how cool it will be if we will get an Alberich stealth layer and maybe even a Typ XXI.
you nailed it
other theathers and nations don´t offer the same potential to make a good and challenging game out of it. As the german side you have progressive difficulty, "underdog" status in the mid-late game and technological advancement culminating with the "super sub" type XXI to fight the odds. Fleet boats of USA kinda miss these things....if you want to have somewhat historically accurate game.
But another nation I have bene thinking about is Italy. With just one type of boat we have everething we need for a full campagne. I read about the Italian uboats yesterday, and they had a lot of boats and types. And we have the map we need for it.
playing as Italian might be actually fun because you get to switch teams in the middle of the game :DD
