Norwegian Campaign, how to start?
Hello.

I have been sailing with my Type II A submarine since the beginning. Now when I went to the guy who gives orders from admiralty, I got a notification there is Norwegian Campaign that has just started.

Now, I've read nightmares from other players that how the window of how long it is active is impossibly short, the escorting German warships do zero damage, single English destroyer can solo an entire convoy you're supposed to protect, there's more English ships attacking than you have torpedoes, etc.

I would like to add my current predicament to the list: I can't even start the first mission. Thus far I've done all the missions surrounding the British Isles, I'm just missing the final mine-laying mission. If I try to spam the button that gives you fresh set of missions, the Norwegian missions never pop up.

I've noticed the Atlantic Campaign you have to command one of the Type VII boats, can't do with Type II. At least there is no such limitation written on the Norwegian Campaign? Do I have to change my port to Kiel instead of Wilhelmshaven to make the missions available? Or something completely different?

It starts March 5th I think. The first escort mission though doesn't begin until early April, even though the campaign is announced. If you don't have it appear in your list, and shuffling the missions doesn't make it pop up either, do a short patrol of a week or two assuming you are in early March. When you come back in in mid-march it will probably be there. Don't worry, you're still good.

Now once it starts, it does go quickly. You need to complete six objectives between early April and June 10th, so you don't want to punt around adding to your kills. Do the mission, return to port and grab the next one. But you should be fine until early April.

Thank you. I go with these instructions.
I would recommend to send the crew on leave before the first Weserübung mission. There will be 6 of them with no time in between to do that.

My progress so far, in hopes it will help some folks trying to get this done:

- My situation was exactly as I described before
- Then I decided to stock up my food, I had not accepted next mission of any type yet after returning to harbour
- I waited 1 day, checked missions, no Norwegian mission
- I bought the "Extra chosable missions" perk
- Now I got the Norwegian mission
- 21 days until the convoy heads out, decide to give my crew 21 day vacation
- After vacation, catch up with convoy
- I get told to sail in front of the convoy and use the hydrophone to detect enemies
- I sail 10-15km ahead of the convoy, dipping underwater to listen
- Detect warship propellors
- Head there, sink 1x Destroyer and 1x Corvette on interception course with the convoy
- Return to course, continue
- Detect warship propellors again, again go for intercept course
- Save game for now, time for bed
- Managed to see 1x Destroyer and 1x Corvette again
- I'm 50% of the journey and have spent 2 out of 5 torpedoes
- Thinking tomorrow I might just try to torpedo one of the enemies, maybe the other one will scatter
- Because I still have the other 50% of the escort to do, I don't want to meet some final boss with just 1 torpedo remaining

Update, for those interested:

So I encountered 2 more enemy vessels with 1 torpedo remaining, a destroyer and a corvette. Torpedoed the destroyer as I considered it more dangerous. Dived to avoid retaliation from the corvette.
Started to stalk the corvette once it got bored and returned to chase the convoy. My idea was, once it gets close to it, I draw its attention with the 20mm deck gun and make it chase me, while the convoy slips past.
Then boom! Red lights in the sky and guns going off from starboard side. I order emergency dive, thinking it was some extra destroyer I had failed to spot. Turns out, it was, but it was the German escort destroyer. At the end of their gunfight, the corvette was left floating dead in the water and the German escort destroyer was able to limp away with the convoy, with rather bad listing.
I gave some provisions for the Englishmen in their lifeboats and for a cheeky sink-an-enemy-ship-by-ramming-it achievement, ordered full speed with collision course on the half-sunk corvette.

I returned to port and took the next convoy escort Norwegian Campaign mission. This time, there was no attacks at all on the convoy and I returned back to Wilhelmshaven with all torpedoes remaining. I got a radio message at one point that the convoy was under attack, but never heard any contacts on hydrophone before that going for the convoy and when I rushed to it, everything was normal.

So a word of warning for fellow Type IIA enjoyers: You can encounter more enemies than you have torpedoes during the course of this mission. But you can also get lucky. Or you can get through it with persistently loading the mission from beginning and repeating until you get 0 attacks on the convoy.
